Mido Ocean Star 200 Italia Special Edition

Mido Ocean Star 200 Italia Special Edition

Currently available in multiple options, including the initially released titanium variant, the Ocean Star 200 is an highly successful Mido‘s collection. We have often highlighted its pluses: it’s a slim sports luxury watch, offers eighty hours of maximum power reserve, a no-frills style whose sandblasted titanium option with orange accents stands out. Finally, it has a retail price cleverly positioned below the 1,000 Euros threshold. Interestingly, Mido has not revised the retail price so far, despite the high request for this model.

The Italian one is among the brand’s key markets; the Ocean Star 200 is the hero as much as a Multifort and a great value proposition to those looking for an affordable luxury watch. The Ocean Star is an all-purpose entry-level diving watch, offering a lot of bang for the bucks. After the titanium version launch, the Ocean Star 200 offering grew up to include stainless steel and gold PVDtreated variants, followed by the Ocean Star Diver 600 saturation diving watch. To celebrate this success and pay homage to the Italian market, Mido introduces a special edition Ocean Star 200 in steel. It is the Mido Ocean Star Italia Special Edition and welcomes the first-ever two-tone combination. The bezel is vivid blue (as opposed to dark blue, which is part of the standard collection, already) while the dial has a vertical satin finish over a gray base. The outcome is pretty cool, with the dial mesmerizingly contrasting the blue bezel.

The gray dial has a tone that changes from gray to dark blue, according to light conditions, at least by judging through the press photos. The specs remain unchanged: the Mido Ocean Star 200 Italia Special Edition is 42,50mm, across, and 11,75mm thick, with a lug-to-lug distance of 22mm. It houses the Caliber 80, best-in-class among its siblings. Mido adds, in the package, a rubber strap as blue as the bezel itself. What a pity it comes with a folding buckle instead of a classic and more comfortable, in my opinion, tang buckle. In short, I think this special edition Mido Ocean Star 200 is eye-catching, quite a different take on the current offering, while hopefully paving the way for two-tone Ocean Star 200s. The Mido Ocean Star 200 Italia Special Edition retails for 1,110 Euros. For more information, visit the Italian official Mido website.
