The LVMH Watch Week in Singapore foresees some new 2023 products already. TAG Heuer keeps fostering product innovation at a steady pace, as exemplified already in 2022 and kicks off the new year with an array of bold new products, including the outstanding Monza Flyback Chronometer and the new Carrera Birthday Piece.
The TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronometer
Despite 2023 marking the Carrera’s 60th Anniversary, we chose to start with the new Monza; the squared chronograph designed by Jack Heuer in 1975 to celebrate Ferrari’s victory at Monza has been wholly redesigned, in full accordance with the brand’s claim “Swiss Avant-Garde since 1860”. The new timepiece turns to the carbon fibre composite and empowered mechanical layout.
The 42mm diameter case matches carbon fibre to Chrono buttons and crownin DLC coated steel, with the case back being PVD-treated grade 5 titanium instead. Lightweight materials are the pillars of a breakthrough Monza chronograph whose mechanical package includes the Heuer 02 Flyback calibre, partially visible through the dial and fully visible through the case back instead.
The 1975 victory at Monza marked the Scuderia Ferrari’s turnover; the new TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronometer is the right celebrative timepiece to revamp such a legendary collection.
The Heuer 02 Flyback calibre is entirely manufactured in-house and boasts chronometric precision. The dial offers tachymeter and pulsometer scales, and the development team has added plenty of SuperLuminova-filled to hands and indexes.
The list price is 13,350 Euros, but it’s relatively inexpensive considering the technical layout; it sets it apart from the traditional model and opens a new chapter for the Monza collection that we hope will extend moving forward.
TAG Heuer Carrera Birthday Piece
Here is a super-classic Carrera. In 2023, the Carrera celebrates its 60th Anniversary; the brand applied the re-edition formula to the lovely vintage-inspired chronograph released during its 160th-anniversary celebrations.
The model’s full name is “TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary Edition Birthday Piece”. You’ll soon notice it comes with the Heuer logo, thus paying homage to vintage models and watch connoisseurs.
The designers took inspiration from 1960s reference 2447 SN with a panda dial. The initials SN stand for Silver and Black (N is for Noir, in French). The Birthday Piece joins the two limited editions, which celebrated the 2447 S and the Montreal in 2020. However, the Birthday Piece features a rally strap with a pin buckle and no folding clasp; the dial offers fine details like the hour and minute hands with a partially black central line, paired with vintage SuperLuminova.
The black line is repeated on the indexes, too, thus creating a pleasant contrast with the silver dial. The case holds its 39 millimetres size, and the performance is guaranteed by the Heuer 02 calibre, a worthy successor to the original Valjoux calibres. The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary Edition Birthday Piece costs 7,100 Euros and will be produced in 600 pieces.
