This year, Nomos Glashütte unveiled the neomatik 38 date Atlantic, finalizing the 38 mm lineup by adding a Dark Blue variant to the Sky and Sand palettes unveiled last year. Atlantic Blue is a common hue across the brand’s collection, yet it was once restricted to the 36.3 size and a different calibre, the DUW 3001.
Nomos Glashütte adds a classic option to neomatik 38
date-sky-and-sand/">Sky and Sand revived, no doubt, Ahoi, the most classic Nomos sports watch compared to a Club Sport, which is 300 meters water resistant and is the most diving-oriented Nomos watch, waiting for the brand to reveal a professional diving watch finally.
Ahoi is the epitome of the brand’s founding philosophy; the 200-meter WR take on the edgy design defines Nomos as a brand. From our perspective, the Atlantic Blue hue completes the product offering.
A warm, dark blue variant is welcome and in line with what most traditional owners expect from Nomos, despite considering the Sky and Sand options shades further enhance the shapes and identity of an Ahoi neomatik 38 date, especially Sky, my favourite. In brief, Atlantic Blue brings Ahoi where it originally belonged.
Case design and details
Let us quickly recap the specs: the case stops at 38.5 mm in diameter and 9.9 mm in thickness if you opt for a see-through sapphire crystal, which offers a clear view of the ultra-flat DUW 6101 calibre, which we have extensively covered elsewhere.
You get a stunning mechanical movement whose design seamlessly integrates into the case. The date ring is placed on the outermost dial to easily integrate with the chapter ring.
The crown’s protective shoulders are shaped like a bevelled trapezoid, with a slightly recessed mid-part to house the screwed-in crown.
Designers cleverly introduced a red ring to warn the wearer that the crown was not secured, thus preventing water from entering the case. The slim baton indexes are yellow ochre and glow green in the dark.
Although the glowing performance is not astonishing, thanks to a simple, no-frills dial, it offers enough lume to read the time.
Final thoughts
It is not a Tangente, not a Club Sport. Ahoi neomatik 38 date Atlantic’s design sits in between, in our opinion, but closer to a Tangente than a Club in design, and is a good compromise between style and function.
Originally equipped with a fabric strap and a pin buckle, it deserves to be upgraded with a Sport bracelet, whose horizontal gap-free mesh bracelet stands out.
The bracelet is welcome if you plan to use it as Nomos Glashütte wants you to, i.e., in water. The retail price is €3,820 with a sapphire crystal case back and €3,520 with a closed case back and strap.
