Such layout is not exactly breaking news; again, if you pick the “175 years of Saxon watchmaking history” limited edition collection, you’ll spot a similar model, the main difference being the “chemin de fer” minute track, here replaced by an ordinary design. The large date window, placed at three, makes the timepiece look more compelling, thus finalizing the eponymous full-Roman-numerals Ludwig appearance.
Usually, the brand’s designers never repeat any limited series recipe; they did so with this new model, and we thoroughly approve it. Here is, in our opinion, the most appealing Ludwig neomatik 41 date – to date – and a timepiece whose designers removed the slightest inch of connection with a Tangente, represented by the date window located initially at four. The technical package is unchanged instead.
What the DUW 6101 self-winding movement offers is one of the largest, hence most readable date windows in the business on any watch, thanks to a thick date ring and a gear design engineered to provide the needed torque to switch the date when needed precisely.
A bigger date window means you can read up to four Roman characters; the opening is so ample that you end up thinking it’s the twelve index on the dial. Here is where the brand’s designers nailed it. You read neomatik 41 mm, but the case width stops at 40,5 across, measuring just 7,7 mm in thickness. We can’t deny that this Ludwig model ranks as an ultra-thin self-winding watch while housing an ordinary winding mass.

The Ludwig noir 33 aims at a global small-wrist unisex audience, which are offered the industry-revered Alpha hand-wound mechanical movement.
Nomos watches housing this calibre lead the market as they run on the most affordable in-house hand-wound movements, among the thinnest, too, stopping the watch at just 6,5 mm from top to back. The Nomos Ludwig noir 33 is undoubtedly a range extender but debuts the first-ever black dial on a Ludwig 33.

The two new Nomos Ludwig are different takes on the Ludwig and come with substantially different tag prices. The petite Nomos Glashütte Ludwig noir 33 retails for €1,500, making it a “best buy” for watch lovers aiming for the best possible technical package among hand-winding wristwatches. It is no coincidence that the Alpha-powered models still cover huge sales volumes at Nomos.
In the Nomos Glashütte Ludwig neomatik 41 date, the brand has pushed classicism to its full potential. Is this the ultimate Nomos Ludwig? It indeed is, we believe and will please larger-wrist wearers looking for comfort and ergonomics as much as for a Chronometric-precise self-winding movement.
