Rolex New Watches 2020 - Here they are, finally
The new Rolex Submariner, the new Oyster Perpetual watches, the new Sky-Dweller, and more.
Each year, Rolex watches are in the headlines when we're approaching the new timepieces' official release date. This year, I guess the expectations are even higher given the reveal usually comes at the end of the first quarter. The COVID 19 pandemic has canceled the leading fairs; product presentations have been therefore delayed with Rolex being among the last brands to take the curtain off their new watches. Interestingly, we were initially expecting Rolex to unveil their new timepieces in 2021 after MCH Group decided to postpone Baselworld to January 2021. Yet, the ever-changing scenario saw the Swiss brand leave Baselworld and communicate a few days ago, the new watches to be unveiled at the beginning of September. NOTE: Scroll down if you want to jump to the new Rolex watches 2020.
Rolex new models 2020 - predictions: Rolex Out of the Blue
In recent months, we experienced plenty of predictions on the new Rolex 2020 sports watches on the Internet. Some of them were reputable; others were just pointless. The most reputable ones affirm the brand will revamp some of the outdated Rolex professional sports watches currently available.
All the Rolex die-hard fans' eyes are on the 2020 new Rolex professional watches, with the 2020 new Rolex Submariner sitting on top of the list. Rumors regarding additional Rolex Daytona 2020 references, a new Rolex Milgauss 2020, or Rolex Explorer 2020 are also flooding the Internet. For example, Milgauss and Explorer are outdated, inside and out, compared to a GMT Master 2 or a Daytona. However, the current gap between the now-old Submariner and the current Rolex GMT Master 2 explains why Rolex teases the Submariner as their flagship new 2020 Rolex watch.
Rolex new timepieces 2021 - the 30th August 2020 update
Let's talk about 2021 Rolex new watches since the Geneva-based luxury brand has stopped production during the lockdown; we expect it'll take some time before the new watches will hit the stores. From what we can see, as stated above, the 2020 Rolex Submariner will be revamped and adopt upgraded mechanical movement (we expect the Rolex caliber 3235 to replace the outdated Rolex caliber 3135). Also, it seems the lugs will undergo a significant redesign, and the case will grow from 40 to 41 millimeters (another rumor to be confirmed too).
We will soon discover whether a case size increase will introduce a slender profile, thus letting the Rolex Submariner 2021 hopefully mimic some highly sought-after vintage references. According to the Rolex official video teaser "Out of the blue," blue will play a significant role (like the newly released Tudor Black Bay Blue).
Here is the new 2020 Rolex Submariner, according to RPR (please welcome the Rolex Cermit)
According to Rolex Passion Report's just-released Instagram post, here is a sneak peek (or leak?) of what the new Rolex Sub might look like:
The picture above comes from a catalog and confirms the new Rolex Submariner 2020 will combine black dial to the blue or green bezel. Also, it proves most collectors' expectations: the Rolex Kermit is on its way to make a comeback (I expect my upcoming Submariner Hulk to be phased out). Let's expect the 2020 Blue Rolex Submariner to be the top-of-the-range new full gold option.
New Rolex Submariner 2020 collection, RPR shows the entire collection and product references - 31 August 2020
Rolex Passion Report discloses what seems to be the entire collection of new Rolex Submariner along with the updated product references:
The new Rolex Submariner 124060 replaces, for example, the Rolex Submariner 114060. Similarly, the Rolex Submariner Date 126610 phases out the Rolex 116610. The Submariner Date 126610LV or new Rolex Kermit will replace the current Submariner Date 116610LV instead. Finally, the Rolex Submariner Date 126619LB or new Rolex Smurf will replace the outgoing Rolex Submariner Date 116619LB. In less than 48 hours, we'll discover if the above is a sneak peek or not, along with other new Rolex watches released (hopefully new Rolex Daytona 2020, Rolex Milgauss 2020, Rolex Explorer 2020, or other collections). Stay tuned.
Here is the new collection of Rolex watches 2020 and 2021 - 1 September 2020
The embargo is finally over. Therefore, we can take the curtain off the 2020 new Rolex watches or, as often stated above, the 2021 Rolex collection. The new Rolex Submariner is this year's flagship collection, something we were expecting, given how big the rumors were over the last months.
We've seen tons of renderings about a fully renewed Submariner for so long we're happy the new one has been finally unveiled. What are the main differences between the old and new Submariner? Let's try and identify them via the pictures released, available on the official Rolex website:
- the case grows from current 40mm, across, to 41mm
- the case wears thinner, and the lugs are less squared and sleeker
- the rotating bezel has different grooves (while hopefully preserving the same top-notch detenting)
- the Rolex Hulk and Rolex Smurf are phased out, replaced by the 2020 Rolex Kermit and Smurf
- the Rolex caliber 3235 is replacing the now-obsolete Rolex 3135 (Sub Date)
- the dial showcases the Rolex logo amidst the Swiss Made wording placed at six
Here is a group photo including some of the new references, like the new Rolex 124060, the Rolex 126610LV, the Rolex 126613 LB in Rolesor and, last but not least, the Rolex 126619 LB:
There is also the Submariner Date with black dial and bezel reference 126610LN, and an additional variant in Rolesor (Oystersteel and yellow gold) with a Royal Blue dial. Finally, the catalog includes two options in Full Gold (yellow gold, let me remind a Submariner never comes with Everose rose gold case and bracelet).

Rolex has not updated the price list with the 2020 Rolex Submariner 41mm collection, although the new one offers a far more technically and esthetically refined mechanical caliber. What are your thoughts on the new Rolex Submariner? What are your first comments? Do you think it will be as coveted as the old reference and become a collector's piece anytime soon, or would you instead go for any outgoing mod? Last but not least, do you believe a used Rolex Submariner will be affected by the introduction of these new references?
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41mm and the new color variations for the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36mm
Although the new Submariner has gained first-page news earlier this morning, Rolex has introduced a slightly upgraded new Oyster Perpetual collection. First things first, a new 41mm large variant has replaced the now-phased-out 39mm one. Let's start with the following two references: the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41 reference 124300 with a silver dial and sunray finish, and the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41 reference 124300 with a black dial and same dial finish.
They showcase 18-karat gold indexes and hands, either in yellow gold or white gold, respectively. I'm not fond of the new case size that much, honestly, and I'm not praising Rolex for phasing out such a sleek timepiece like the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 39mm reference 114300. Yes, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 39 has been discontinued. However, let's hope to get our hands on the new watches soon, to give our final verdict.
However, from an aesthetic standpoint, the new dial doesn't look as clean as an Oyster Perpetual 39's; the double index applied at three, six, and nine makes the new 41mm model look a bit chunky. It tends to make this Oyster's dial look like a kind of a Datejust 41's. Conversely, the new Chromalight filled indexes overcome one of the old Oyster Perpetual 39's weak points: poor readability in the dark. Let's expect the current Oyster Perpetual 39 in stock to increase their value on both the new and used Rolex market.
The evergreen Oyster Perpetual 36 126000 now offers new and stronger-than-ever color options. All in all, the Oyster Perpetual 36 keeps playing with colorful dial options, with the phased-out Grape or Green dials standing out in the past. The new color palettes are more vivid than ever before, and confirm the 36mm option is the unisex, small-wrist oriented Oyster.
New Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41mm and 36mm - the price list
The new Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41mm reference 124300 retails for 5,600 Euros, the Oyster Perpetual 36mm reference 126000 comes at 5,300 Euros instead. As with the new Submariner, the silver and black new Oyster Perpetual promoted are not the only options so far. The Oyster Perpetual 41mm shares the same color options as its 36mm sibling.
New Rolex Sky-Dweller Oysterflex 326238 and 326235
Rolex's Oyster Perpetual collection's latest additions are the new Sky-Dweller 326238 and 326235 equipped with the Oysterflex bracelet. We reviewed the current Rolex Sky-Dweller a few years ago. It is the complicated Rolex par excellence, along with the Yacht-Master 2, yet not the most comfortable given its relatively thick and heavy case compared to its sportier and dressier Oyster Perpetual siblings. With the launch of this new option, the Sky-Dweller is equally sportier and more comfortable, and I believe it'll soon broaden its audience.
If you own a Rolex Daytona on Oysterflex or a Yacht-Master 40, you're aware the Rolex patented rubber strap is super smooth yet robust. Its flexibility is top-notch, thanks to the adoption of titanium and nickel made blades inside each half. The Oysterflex combines a metal bracelet's performance with the best quality and easy-of-use coming with a rubber strap.
Finally, the Oysterflex makes the Gold Sky-Dweller lighter, too, and perfect during the summer season. It comes with 18-carat Gold Oysterclasp and Glidelock extension systems. Specifically, the new Rolex Sky-Dweller 326238 in yellow gold also debuts a unique black dial with a sunray finish and is priced at 38,350 Euros. Just like with every new 2020 Oyster Perpetual, the former is one of the new options available. Please jump to Francesco Falcone's freshly released post to learn about Rolex Sky-Dweller Oysterflex's specs and options.
