Watch fairs are growing. As Watches and Wonders<\/strong> and other major events expand and go mainstream, a new formula is emerging: regional get<\/strong>\u2013togethers<\/strong> connect enthusiasts with watchmakers, from haute horlogerie to niche brands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Italy already hosts two main events, each with a different mission. While the 2026 Milano Watch Week<\/strong> has just closed its doors, Watches of Italy<\/strong>\u2018s 7th<\/sup> edition will open November 14 to 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Milano Watch Week brings established brands and independent watchmakers under one roof. Watches of Italy is an Italian brand<\/strong>\u2013focused<\/strong> gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, a new player has quietly joined the party: the Istanbul Watch Festival<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Istanbul?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Turkey is an industrial and watch<\/strong>\u2013culture powerhouse<\/strong>, with an economy closely connected to Europe\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n

GDP may have slowed down <\/strong>in 2026, but its growth rate remains among Europe\u2019s strongest. Istanbul is also a cultural crossroads, and its watchmaking industry dates back to the first half of the 20th<\/sup> century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team behind the Istanbul Watch Festival has spent years building the country\u2019s reputation<\/strong> as a hub for watch enthusiasts.<\/p>\n\n\n

Serdar Oal, IWF consultant, is among digital media\u2019s longest-established and most respected watch editors. His publication, Horobox, pioneered<\/strong> global digital watch journalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Turkish Watch Club<\/strong>, which brings together the country\u2019s (and global) most respected watch collectors, also helped shape the vision behind Turkey\u2019s first-ever global watch fair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An Istanbul-based fair was, therefore, the final step<\/strong>: connecting people whose expertise is second to none.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first-ever Istanbul Watch Festival<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first edition drew 11,500 invitations, 7,500<\/strong>+ participants<\/strong>, 20+ exhibiting brands, and 21 talks and workshops over two days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If I had to summarise this edition into one sentence, I\u2019d add a \u201cmake watchmaking easy again\u201d<\/em> approach. The idea was as straightforward as it was effective<\/strong>: a no-frills, direct enthusiasts-to-watch brand concept. As simple as that.<\/p>\n\n\n

The first edition was a staggering success, with plenty of room to grow<\/strong>. Never forget that Istanbul is Europe\u2019s largest city, and the event\u2019s full potential is long to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering the number of exhibiting watch brands, the turnout was nothing short of extraordinary<\/strong>. If I had to compare it with other events in terms of potential audience, I could think of only New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global brands, including two Turkish ones<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The 20 participating brands include Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, Japan, and Turkey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

Wainer and Quantum are home brands, with the second holding the most extensive coverage. It manufactures 150,000 watches a year<\/strong> and reaches customers through 1,000 retail locations across 35 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Turkish brand marked its 30<\/strong>th<\/sup> anniversary<\/strong> in 2026, and the two-day event was the perfect venue for the celebrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quantum sells steel sports watches on bracelets, powered by Japanese-sourced movements, with extensive dial customization and an average selling price<\/strong> of around \u20ac300.<\/p>\n\n\n

Beyond its design, the brand\u2019s business model isn\u2019t much different from Italian watch brand Venezianico<\/strong>\u2018s approach to global production and competitive pricing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quantum and the Istanbul Watch Festival organized several dedicated events<\/strong> for the international press during the show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What comes next?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While the numbers speak for themselves, what mattered most to us was how much we enjoyed<\/strong> the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkey is a beautiful, incredibly welcoming country. Istanbul combines an audience unmatched in size by any other European city and holds a strategic position<\/strong> at the crossroads of Europe and Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n

The festival put the Turkish community in the spotlight: G-Shock, Nomos<\/a>, and Lebois & Co.<\/strong> fans shared the stage with Turkey\u2019s most seasoned collectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s next? We can\u2019t wait to see what the future holds<\/strong> and how the organizers will turn this potential audience and these global communities into something bigger, capable of resonating internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
