In 2026, Grand Seiko\u2019s Evolution 9 Collection has come a long way<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2025 U.F.A. technology<\/a><\/strong> marked a milestone in watchmaking, with Spring Drive delivering remarkable accuracy: \u00b120 seconds per year.<\/p>\n\n\n

Thankfully, the SLGB003 \u201cIce Forest\u201d<\/em>, which introduced this technology<\/strong>, was just the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grand Seiko has now added five Spring Drive U.F.A. references<\/strong>: four at 40 mm and one at 37 mm, each building on an established collection design, with additional refinements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four of the five new models use the brand\u2019s proprietary Ever-Brilliant Steel. This gives buyers more choice and broadens the collection\u2019s appeal<\/strong>, and the mechanical range has undergone a similar evolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SLGB007 and SLGB015<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Two references stand out, each for different reasons: the SLGB007 and SLGB015. Both have dials inspired by Lake Suwa in Nagano Prefecture. Both use the Spring Drive U.F.A. calibre 9RB2<\/strong>, with a 72-hour power reserve. The SLGB015 is essentially the steel counterpart to the titanium SLGB003.<\/p>\n\n\n

The SLGB007 instead measures 40.0 mm across<\/strong> and 11.7 mm thick, compared with the SLGB015\u2019s 11.4 mm. Its new black wave<\/strong>\u2013pattern<\/strong> dial is paired with a High-Intensity Titanium case and bracelet.<\/p>\n\n\n

The main differences are: the SLGB015 has a blue Lake Suwa dial, Ever-Brilliant Steel, and a 37 mm case; the SLGB007 has a black Lake Suwa dial with dark brown tones<\/strong> and a 40 mm titanium case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zaratsu-polished titanium needs little to no introduction. But Ever-Brilliant Steel\u2019s wider use gives the Evolution 9 stronger appeal<\/strong> to buyers who prefer a more classic look, whether they already own a Grand Seiko or are considering their first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A closer look at Ever-Brilliant Steel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Grand Seiko\u2019s proprietary alloy deserves more attention than it gets. It offers a clear benefit: superior corrosion resistance<\/strong>, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n

However, unlike 904L, Ever-Brilliant Steel is not a standardised alloy<\/strong> in the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PREN\u2014Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number\u2014is a widely recognised<\/strong> measure of resistance to pitting corrosion instead. Grand Seiko claims a value above 40 for Ever-Brilliant Steel, placing it among the so-called \u201csuper stainless steels\u201d<\/em> and above the approximate 35 commonly associated with 904L.<\/p>\n\n\n

From a wearer\u2019s perspective, it offers better corrosion resistance and a brighter, whiter lustre<\/strong> than even the excellent 904L. Distortion-free Zaratsu polishing brings out that finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A tapered bracelet and the clever micro<\/strong>\u2013adjustment<\/strong> system introduced in 2025 add to the SLGB015\u2019s appeal. With its balanced proportions and fine finishing, this is the ultimate classic Evolution 9, and the Lake Suwa dial adds depth and a touch of sporting elegance.<\/p>\n\n\n

The SLGB007 offers a more understated take<\/strong> on the same formula. Its High-Intensity Titanium construction makes it notably lighter and hypoallergenic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Titanium is a favourite choice among those allergic to conventional metals. Its low weight is another benefit<\/strong>\u2014one the luxury watch world has long since embraced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
