A tiny octopus, hand-sculpted in transparent glass, takes centre stage<\/strong> on the dial of a Vacheron Constantin watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The M\u00e9tiers d\u2019Art Tribute to the Animal Kingdom \u2013 Glassoctopus is the outcome of a collaboration between the Maison and Italian artist Simone Crestani, created as part of Vacheron Constantin\u2019s One of Not Many Crafts Programme<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

The project brings an art form rarely associated with<\/strong> the Maison\u2019s M\u00e9tiers d\u2019Art tradition\u2014glass sculpture\u2014into haute horlogerie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collaboration is also being celebrated in Rome, where Vacheron Constantin\u2019s boutique<\/strong> on Via dei Condotti is hosting twelve of Crestani\u2019s works from September 29 through October 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Glassoctopus: i.e., a glass octopus on the dial<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Vacheron Constantin and Simone Crestani unveiled their collaboration in Venice in early September, as part of Homo Faber<\/strong>, the international venue for exceptional craftsmanship and contemporary creativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Glassoctopus, Crestani has brought transparent glass<\/strong> into an object so delicate as it is small.<\/p>\n\n\n

At the dial\u2019s centre, a tiny octopus appears<\/strong> to drift through an underwater world. Crestani shaped its tentacles and suckers one by one, using tools developed specifically for the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result is a unique piece<\/strong> in which the sculpture is far more than a decoration: it is the dial\u2019s defining trait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project\u2019s major challenge was applying Crestani\u2019s sculptural language to a size<\/strong> he is not usually used to.<\/p>\n\n\n

That is what makes the collaboration so compelling<\/strong>: Crestani\u2019s distinctive craft remains unmistakable, and so does it when it meets watchmaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Introducing new ideas into haute horlogerie<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Glassoctopus is part of Vacheron Constantin\u2019s One of Not Many Crafts Programme<\/strong>, which brings the Maison\u2019s watchmaking expertise into dialogue with artists and craftspeople from other disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n

Founded in 1755, Vacheron Constantin continues to safeguard traditional skills<\/strong> in-house, including engraving, guilloch\u00e9, enamelling, and gem-setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme builds on that heritage<\/strong> by introducing techniques from outside the conventional boundaries of watchmaking.<\/p>\n\n\n
