To celebrate the Ladybird collection\u2019s 70<\/strong>th<\/sup> anniversary<\/strong>, Blancpain introduces the Lady B, a new timepiece that explores mechanical miniaturisation through a spherical case and an integrated double-wrap strap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The design draws inspiration from the legendary 1956 Ladybird Bullet<\/strong>, but it is not a reissue. Blancpain takes the original concept and reinterprets it in a thoroughly contemporary construction.<\/p>\n\n\n

The story begins with Betty Fiechter<\/strong>, who took the helm at Blancpain in 1933 and became the first woman to lead a Swiss watchmaking\u00a0manufacture.<\/p>\n\n\n

Under her direction, the Ladybird Bullet brought miniaturisation to an uncommon level in 1956. Its mechanical movement measured just 11.85 mm across, making it the smallest mechanical movement<\/strong> ever produced in series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady B revisits that idea with a case architecture inspired by the Ladybird Bullet<\/strong> and powered by Blancpain\u2019s in-house Calibre 615 automatic movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Case and design: 19 mm across, with a spherical profile<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Lady B\u2019s case measures just 19 mm in diameter<\/strong> and 13.2 mm thick, with a stated volume of only 2.9 cm\u00b3. Its spherical shape changes the usual relationship between diameter and depth, turning the case into a three-dimensional form that envelops the movement.<\/p>\n\n\n

There are no traditional lugs\u2014in fact, there are no lugs. The strap passes directly through the case<\/strong> and wraps twice around the wrist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This solution makes the case and strap appear as a single<\/strong>, continuous element, making the watch more like a piece of jewellery than a conventional timepiece.<\/p>\n\n\n

The case is available in stainless steel or 18-karat red gold<\/strong> and is hand-finished, in keeping with Blancpain\u2019s traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The brand pairs polished surfaces with a deliberately simple opaline dial<\/strong>: no diamonds, mother-of-pearl, or other precious decorations.<\/p>\n\n\n

The casework and mechanical movement define the Lady B. Blancpain\u2019s campaign uses a ladybug<\/strong> to illustrate the watch\u2019s remarkable miniaturisation. Both versions are water-resistant to 3 bar (30 meters).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calibre 615: small, but fully mechanical<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Inside the case is Blancpain\u2019s in-house Calibre 615<\/strong> self-winding movement, measuring 15.70 mm in diameter and 3.90 mm thick.<\/p>\n\n\n

The movement comprises 180 components and 29 jewels<\/strong>, runs at 3 Hz, and delivers a respectable 38-hour power reserve. Its balance spring is made of silicon.<\/p>\n\n\n

The first version of Calibre 615 dates to 1995<\/strong>, and the movement has been progressively updated over the years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blancpain cites the addition of a silicon hair spring<\/strong> among those refinements\u2014a technology now widely found in the technical specifications of brands across the group.<\/p>\n\n\n

The caseback, too, was designed around the watch\u2019s compact dimensions. The case\u2019s internal geometry leaves enough room for the oscillating weight to move, allowing it to function within the limited space available<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

This is where the Lady B becomes especially interesting from a technical standpoint: fitting a mechanical movement into such a small case<\/strong>\u2014and offering that achievement in a women\u2019s watch\u2014is exceptionally rare in modern watchmaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The double-wrap strap<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The strap is integral to the watch\u2019s architecture. Made from calfskin, it comes in seven colours<\/strong>: white, beige, mocha, burgundy, blue, coral red, and purple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It fastens with a pin buckle<\/strong> and can be changed without tools. By passing directly through the case, the strap eliminates conventional attachment points and wraps twice around the wrist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two versions: stainless steel and red gold<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Blancpain offers the Lady B in two configurations built around the same architecture. Reference 0064 1142 B24<\/strong> has a stainless-steel case, while reference 0064 3642 E17<\/strong> is crafted in 18-karat red gold\u2014both feature Calibre 615 and an opaline dial.<\/p>\n\n\n

The only difference between the two versions is the case material<\/strong> and the aesthetic character it brings. Stainless steel is clearly the entry point; red gold is an expected\u2014and essential\u2014option for a luxury women\u2019s watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Price and availability<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Blancpain Lady B will be available starting September 17, 2026<\/strong>, through Blancpain boutiques and authorised retailers. Prices are \u20ac11,360<\/strong> for the stainless-steel version and \u20ac17,350<\/strong> for the 18-karat red-gold model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady B and the Ladybird legacy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With the Lady B, Blancpain returns to a theme that has defined the Ladybird\u2019s history: how small can a mechanical watch become without sacrificing the complexity of a fully mechanical architecture<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result is not a reproduction of the Ladybird Bullet, but a contemporary interpretation<\/strong> of the same principle.<\/p>\n\n\n

To close, we should recall the line from a Blancpain advertising campaign released in the early 1990s, which captures the brand\u2019s conviction and vision<\/strong>: \u201cSince 1735, there has never been a quartz Blancpain watch. And there never will be.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
