That said, there\u2019s an area where Bulova has led the field, too, and <strong>that is Motorsport<\/strong>. As we cherish the brand\u2019s <strong>official return to Motorsport<\/strong>, we couldn\u2019t avoid mentioning its roots date back to the forties when the amateur race <em>\u201cThe Soap Box Derby\u201d<\/em> began, involving young petrolheads and their tiny wood-made cars. Back then, Bulova created a <strong>unique commemorative watch<\/strong> to celebrate each edition\u2019s winner, i.e. a three-hands mechanical timepiece and a collector\u2019s\u00a0piece nowadays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The competition debuted across rural North America in 1934; Bulova and Chevrolet noticed the category\u2019s success and became the official sponsors. The competition is still highly sought-after and very popular among younger generations of car enthusiasts. <strong>It\u00a0takes place in July at Derby Downs<\/strong> in Akron, Ohio, where its story began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-bulova-racer-chronograph\">The Bulova Racer Chronograph<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Bulova unveiled a collection of two-counter chronographs reminiscent of Grand Prix racing. The American brand did not replicate the \u201cofficial\u201d celebration watch but <strong>went a\u00a0new direction<\/strong>, crafting a tonneau-shaped case so popular across the sixties and seventies, the golden of car\u00a0racing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"three-options\">Three options<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The outcome includes <strong>three timepieces<\/strong> in steel, one being IP (Ion Plating) black treated and two bracelet options like a \u201cRally strap\u201d one with a tang buckle and a contemporary three-link bracelet with a polished mid link one and a butterfly clasp with two safety buttons.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/bulova-racer-chronograph.jpg\" alt=\"bulova racer chronograph\" class=\"wp-image-53957\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The case of a Bulova Racer Chronograph measures <strong>42.0 mm across and 12.95 mm in thickness<\/strong>. It is not a small watch by any means, and the case shape won\u2019t help to slim it down, but the quartz movement makes it <strong>lighter than you\u2019d expect<\/strong> compared to a similar mechanical model. The IP black-treated model has a matching black strap. Some details stand out up close, such as the arrow-shaped chrono hands, with the thirty-minute hand being orange. The chrono hand is white or rhodium-plated on the <em>\u201cGulf\u201d<\/em> variant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"details-matter\">Details matter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Another distinctive hallmark is the tiny <strong>tuning fork logo<\/strong> etched on the case. Despite plenty of vintage references, the case design reveals a more contemporary approach as you flip the watch on the sides. The Bulova Racer Chronograph offers a nice style, is well built, and is waterproof up to 100 meters, but <strong>it deserves 262 kHz technology<\/strong>. I assume the brand began exploring uncharted territory with\u00a0an\u00a0entry-level model before going all in. Nonetheless, Bulova builds on proven American DNA.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/bulova-racer-chronograph-9.jpg\" alt=\"bulova racer chronograph 9\" class=\"wp-image-53949\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>A Racer Chronograph <strong>retails for \u20ac429 in all steel<\/strong> and \u20ac389 on a strap, with the IP black option placed slightly above at \u20ac399. I would go for the light blue dial, no doubt; it is far more attractive and offers a livery any motor enthusiast loves, despite the option with a black dial being the best choice in the long term,
