However, what matters most is how you spend your lifetime, and the\u00a0Japanese brand <strong>belongs to a class apart<\/strong>. Citizen\u00a0epitomizes watchmaking culture and offers a range of expertise that no other oldest watchmaker can. Undoubtedly, the combination of products and patents released in the\u00a0last\u00a0century is <strong>impressive and extensive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-53617 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Citizen-Tanashi-Entrance.jpg\" alt=\"Citizen Tanashi Entrance\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Any anniversary includes special editions and new collections, as always. However, Citizen <strong>took a different route<\/strong> since\u00a0it opened their archives to reveal what most people do not know about the brand. They did not follow the ordinary formula, and I perceive they revealed more novelties than in 2024 to <strong>mark the brand\u2019s legacy<\/strong> like never before for a brand so traditional.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" id=\"tokyo-to-new-york-and-paris-the-%e2%80%9cessence-of-time%e2%80%9d-travelling-exhibition\">Tokyo to New York and Paris: the \u201cEssence of Time\u201d travelling exhibition<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Proof\u00a0positive of a new direction, the Japanese brand organized a <strong>travelling exhibition<\/strong> displaying one hundred watches out of a six-thousand pieces archive to showcase what generations of engineers crafted from 1924 onwards while focusing\u00a0on the half of the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-53647 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/citizen-promaster-super-tough.jpg\" alt=\"citizen promaster super tough\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All the displayed watches describe the brand\u2019s unstoppable innovative spirit, from mechanical, time-only, or complicated watches to quartz, diving, or advanced-digital ones, where <strong>Japan is an undisputed leader<\/strong>. Kicking off in Tokyo first and then in New York, the exhibition moved to Paris to welcome press media and watch aficionados.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Once again,\u00a0the\u00a0journey epitomizes the <em>\u201ccitizen of the world\u201d<\/em> moniker and a vision to <strong>provide the best technologies<\/strong> to the global watch community, which includes Europe, where Swiss and French brands rule the game.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-56522 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/citizen-soundwich-1984-uno.jpg'><img width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/citizen-soundwich-1984-uno-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"citizen soundwich 1984 uno\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/citizen-soundwich-1984.jpg'><img width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/citizen-soundwich-1984-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"citizen soundwich 1984\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Japanese management <strong>chose Paris to host the exhibition<\/strong>, where Citizen brought an uncommon combination of milestone-setting timepieces and authentic tool watches compared to today\u2019s accessories. CITIZEN fostered technological advancements like few other brands and now begins to approach premium luxury with THE CITIZEN brand and their now-owned Swiss-made manufacturer, La-Joux Perret.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" id=\"the-watches-on-display-our-selection\">The watches on display: our selection<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This section might fill a whole book, and it almost did. To celebrate Citizen\u2019s 100th anniversary, they partnered with Assouline to\u00a0print a\u00a0collector\u2019s\u00a0book for the\u00a0most discerning watch collector. It was named <em>\u201cEssence of Time\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and is a journey through time to <strong>discover the brand\u2019s achievements<\/strong> across a century.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_53658\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-53658\" style=\"width: 1100px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-53658 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/citizen-essence-of-time-assouline-1.jpg\" alt=\"citizen essence of time assouline\" width=\"1100\" height=\"600\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-53658\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Assouline<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We picked <strong>some watches from the crowd<\/strong>: two are self-winding and prove Citizen\u2019s prowess in making excellent mechanical\u00a0watches, which we hope will return to their glory soon.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\" id=\"citizen-chronograph-challenge-timer\">Citizen Chronograph Challenge Timer<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While digital technologies set Citizen\u2019s\u00a0standards and current collections, the brand has a long-standing pedigree as a respected manufacturer of superb and complicated mechanical watches, and <strong>the Challenge Timer is one of\u00a0them<\/strong>. The brand has begun investing heavily in high-end mechanical watchmaking with <em>\u201cThe Citizen 0-200\u201d<\/em> project and\u00a0the <strong>8 series<\/strong> in the low-to-mid range to mimic the La-Joux Perret-powered collection.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-53625 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Citizen-Chronograph-Challenge-Timer.jpg\" alt=\"Citizen Chronograph Challenge Timer\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the dawn of the quartz era, Citizen unveiled the Chronograph Challenge Timer, whose specs sheet was terrific: a self-winding chronograph powered by the 8100 calibre, a 4 Hertz movement with a <strong>column wheel mechanism, and a Flyback function<\/strong>! CITIZEN could produce a refined chronograph, and we only desired mechanical complications to return soon.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\" id=\"citizen%e2%80%99s-first-radio-controlled-multiband-watch\">Citizen\u2019s first radio-controlled multiband watch<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Their <strong>first-ever atomic watch<\/strong>, pictured below, could receive the signal in the UK, Europe, and Japan when it appeared in 1993. Here, Citizen leads the market with its fiercest competitor, Seiko.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\" id=\"the-1976-citizen-worldtimer\">The 1976 Citizen Worldtimer<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Last but not least in this shortlist is the splendid <strong>1976 Citizen Worldtimer<\/strong>. Like the Challenge Timer chronograph, the Worldtimer is timeless and is a self-winding watch. It sports a brushed cushion case, a polished bezel, and two crowns. One is for hand-winding <strong>the calibre 7450<\/strong> and the other for operating the disc of the cities.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-53627 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Citizen-Worldtimer-1976.jpg\" alt=\"Citizen Worldtimer 1976\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is a masterpiece and a beauty, and I am sure it would\u00a0rise to glory should Citizens decide to remake it.
