For example, the Speedmaster<\/strong> is the only hand-winding luxury chronograph in its product category and a source of inspiration for most V-shaped three-counter timepieces.<\/p>\n\n\n However, let\u2019s split the analysis between the so-called Pre-Moon models, whose symmetrical case measures less than 40 mm, and comes with no-protection push pieces as stated before \u2013 well exemplified by the legendary CK2915<\/strong> or the Speedmaster First Omega in Space<\/strong> worn by Wally Schirra<\/strong> in 1962<\/strong>, and the more familiar Moonwatch<\/strong> models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The now-discontinued Speedmaster First Omega in Space<\/strong> model was the first-ever Speedmaster<\/strong> to revamp this specific design.<\/p>\n\n\n Please consider that we won\u2019t extend the analysis for the sake of the reader\u2019s time; countless product variants have been released over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n The main traits include the three signature, slightly recessed counters, baton hands (replaced by the \u201cBroad Arrow\u201d or \u201cAlpha\u201d hands-on other models) and no date at all across all the hand-wound models. Build quality and details have grown too; let\u2019s expect the Speedmaster Moonwatch<\/strong> to grow in specs and price moving forward, and even more so should Omega<\/strong> extend to a Moonwatch<\/strong> its new O-Megasteel alloy introduced with the Ultradeep<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Therefore, if you\u2019re willing to buy one, it does represent a great option and a secure investment. The luxury sports hand-wound chronograph has undergone a thorough re-engineering, far more intense than what meets our eye at first glance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Please don\u2019t hate us if you don\u2019t find us listed among the now-phased-out Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch<\/strong>\u2018s most prominent supporters; an Omega 311.33.42.30.01.001<\/strong> did not fully mimic this legendary chronograph\u2019s foothold, to be honest.<\/p>\n\n\n The\u00a02021 new Moonwatch<\/strong>\u00a0is shaking things up and pays homage to the case style historically coded as\u00a0105.012<\/strong>, thus showcasing a modern take on the wristwatch once worn by\u00a0Apollo 11\u2018s astronauts. The second experiment in a row follows\u00a0Omega<\/strong>\u2018s fourth-gen inspired\u00a0Silver Snoopy Award<\/a><\/strong>, quite a hot piece already according to statistics and waiting lists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As a result, the\u00a02021 Moonwatch<\/strong>\u00a0welcomes a\u00a0\u201cStep dial\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and the\u00a0\u201cdot over ninety,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0thus grabbing the attention of connoisseurs and vintage\u00a0Speedmasters<\/strong>\u00a0 When I first wore the\u00a0Silver Snoopy<\/strong>, I realized the first change over previous generations was the superior build quality. While drawing inspiration from an older generation, each recent iteration looks upscale in materials, refinement, technical prowess.<\/p>\n\n\n Although I would have loved\u00a0Omega<\/strong>\u00a0to finally introduce proprietary steel on the likes of\u00a0Sedna<\/strong>\u2122,\u00a0Canopus<\/strong>\u2122, or\u00a0Moonshine<\/strong>\u2122\u00a0Gold<\/strong>\u00a0instead, the new\u00a0Moonwatch<\/strong>\u00a0has a more luxurious feel and is far more compelling and rich in details than ever before (e.g., please see the double-stepped solid case back).<\/p>\n\n\n\n To most people and to my surprise too, the overall case proportions have dramatically changed, something you won\u2019t read in the specs\u2019 sheet: measuring\u00a042mm<\/strong>\u00a0across, the new one comes with either reduced thickness and lug to lug distance (top-down) to make the new\u00a0Speedy\u00a0smaller than it looks from afar.<\/p>\n\n\n Both steel options stop well under\u00a014 millimeters, with the sapphire glass\u00a0Moonwatch<\/strong>\u00a0measuring\u00a013,2 mm\u00a0instead of the\u00a013.6 mm\u00a0you\u2019ll find on the hesalite-crystal. It is a substantial improvement over the old one, and it\u2019s a key feature I would emphasize, along with the inside-and-out re-engineered bracelet, from a communication standpoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s a pity the\u00a02021\u00a0new Speedmaster Moonwatch<\/strong>\u00a0timepieces still offer a water resistance of up to\u00a050 meters\u00a0instead. Although I won\u2019t expect any\u00a0Speedy\u00a0to perform like a\u00a0Seamaster<\/a><\/strong>, 100-meter water tightness and a screw-down crown represents a missed opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n Finally, the almost entirely brushed finish is usually not a build quality amplifier; I would have gone here for a different polished-to-brushed surface ratio as per their direct contenders in this class of products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n However, the new Moonwatch<\/strong>\u00a0conveys sporty elegance and\u00a0\u201cunderstatement\u201d<\/em>\u00a0while being the closest new thing to the first and only watch worn on the moon. The\u00a0Hesalite Moonwatch<\/strong>\u2018s bracelet is entirely brushed on top; in contrast, the\u00a0Sapphire Moonwatch<\/strong>\u2018s thin mid-links are mirror-polished.<\/p>\n\n\n Next is the bezel, whose inlay is in aluminum. Well, I get the point of not adopting a ceramic ring, but I\u2019m not sure a die-hard fan won\u2019t appreciate it. Last week, the new\u00a0Omega Moonwatch 2021<\/strong>\u00a0was among the hottest topics among our\u00a0Space Omega Club<\/strong>\u2018s members\u2019 discussions, as expected, and the redesigned bracelet was the most coveted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Here is, from a consumer\u2019s perspective, the new collection\u2019s\u00a0\u201cgame-changer\u201d<\/em>; no photo or video could ever do justice to how the new compares to the old one.
