IWC<\/strong>\u00a0strengthened their\u00a0Pilot\u2019s Watch<\/strong>\u00a0awareness by signing a partnership with the\u00a0US Navy<\/strong>. The agreement includes pilots testing the brand\u2019s watches, thus empowering the collection from the chronograph to the newly released\u00a0Big Pilot\u2019s Watch 43<\/strong><\/a> too.<\/p>\n

The latest collection proves that what began as an experiment involving the\u00a0Fighter Weapons School\u00a0<\/strong>(otherwise said, the Top Gun school) has now extended to other squadrons, including the\u00a0Blue Angels<\/strong>, which holds as the US aerobat team.<\/p>\n

In figures, the\u00a0Blue Angels<\/strong>\u00a0team consists of\u00a0141 pilots<\/strong>\u00a0coming from either the Navy or the Marines, and the blue\u00a0Pilot\u2019s Watch Chronograph<\/strong>\u00a0pictured here is the most exclusive wristwatch carrying the\u00a0Blue Angels<\/strong>\u00a0insignia so far.<\/p>\n

From a collection perspective, the IWC Pilot\u2019s Watch Chronograph Edition \u201cBlue Angels<\/strong>\u00ae\u201c<\/strong>\u00a0belongs to a capsule collection and adds to the\u00a0Pilot\u2019s Watch Chronograph Edition \u201cTophatters\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0Pilot\u2019s Watch Chronograph Edition \u201cRoyal Maces\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0while showcasing distinctive colours and materials combination, out of the same technical layout.<\/p>\n

Blue ceramic is a first for an\u00a0IWC Pilot\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0chronograph and results from an industrial process where zirconium oxide combines with metal oxides;\u00a0IWC<\/strong>\u00a0has adopted blue ceramic for the case body, while\u00a0Ceratanium<\/strong>\u2122 is standard on the crown and Chrono pushers.<\/p>\n

The combination of ceramic and\u00a0Ceratanium<\/strong>\u2122 is uncommon and complements the titanium case back. Making a ceramic watch is often synonymous with oversize, and the above is no different.<\/p>\n

Here is why the Pilot\u2019s Watch Chronograph Edition \u201cBlue Angels<\/strong>\u00ae\u201c<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a044.5 mm<\/strong>\u00a0across and\u00a015.7 mm<\/strong>\u00a0in height while saving weight compared to a similar steel\u00a0IWC Chrono<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The counter at six houses the\u00a0Blue Angels<\/strong>\u2018 badge, and the yellow tone is spread across the dial \u2013 like on the central Chrono hand or day and date, for example.<\/p>\n

I would have gone for the old-school altimeter-shaped date window on this special edition instead of adopting a standard framed day and date window, which works pretty well when paired with baton hands, as exemplified by the exquisite\u00a0Tribute to 3705<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The watch is bold and all but understated, the kind of watch you either approve or not. The nylon strap with yellow stitching adopts a thick rubber inlay on the inside, which helps the watch taper onto your wrist.<\/p>\n

He struck a pose inside a photo box placed amidst the\u00a0Moebius Milan<\/strong>, the venue chosen for our get together.<\/p>\n
