In order to defeat this phenomenon, in 1873 the <strong>Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Horlogers<\/strong> was founded, at the behest of watchmakers and after many attempts to fight against foreign brands that were used adopting the name of Geneva, the <strong>Hallmark of Geneva<\/strong> was then founded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34214 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-9.jpeg\" alt=\"Hallmark of Geneva 9\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-9.jpeg 1000w, https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-9-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-9-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-9-480x360.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2011 the <strong>Hallmark of Geneva<\/strong> marked its <strong>125th anniversary<\/strong> and was then updated. November 2011 the Foundation of the Laboratory of Watchmaking and Microtechnics of Geneva (<strong>TIMELAB<\/strong>) unveiled the new rules to be adopted as of 2012. The biggest change at the time was the certification had to include the whole watch, and not just the movement. It\u2019s all about 12 requirements, among which are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">each steel part\u00a0 has to feature polished angles, all visible surfaces smoothed, screws heads polished, hollows and edges chamfered<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">the movement has to be equipped with jewels boasting polished holeswheels need to be fully chamfered and their edges polished<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">pinions surfaces must be polished<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34216\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-10.jpeg\" alt=\"Hallmark of Geneva 10\" width=\"1366\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-10.jpeg 1366w, https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-10-300x78.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-10-1024x267.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-10-768x200.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-10-480x125.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1366px) 100vw, 1366px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What the 2014 <strong>Hallmark of Geneva<\/strong> now introduces is not about rules, but mostly the manufacturing technique: the <strong>nano-structural<\/strong> marking. This new technology has been developed by the <strong>University of Geneva<\/strong> in co-operation with <strong>PHASIS<\/strong>, a company specialized in nano-tehcnology, metallurgy and new materials. The nano-structural marking introduces new techniques such as micro-positioning and high speed electronics, two innovations that will let watchmakers mark even single parts of the watch as well as raw materials.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34218 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-4.jpeg\" alt=\"Hallmark of Geneva 4\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-4.jpeg 1000w, https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-4-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-4-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-4-720x480.jpeg 720w, https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hallmark-of-Geneva-4-480x320.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With the introduction of nano-technology, marking changes as no physical contact between marker and timepiece is no longer needed. This marking lets you alter a surface even microscopically, thus providing marking even on very tiny watch parts. It is hard to say, since visibility when it comes to hallmarking is fundamental and positioning it is a crucial choice.
