Not only has the size gap between I and II grown, but it\u2019s not breaking news any longer that the\u00a0<strong>2021 Rolex Explorer<\/strong>\u00a0comes as\u00a0<strong>reference\u00a0124270<\/strong>\u00a0and a\u00a0first-ever <strong>Rolesor reference 124273<\/strong>\u00a0(both measuring 36 mm across). Those wearing the now-discontinued model found out the timepiece they own now costs twice as much as its retail price. In summary, the\u00a0<strong>Explorer I<\/strong>\u00a0replacement process confirms that the\u00a0<strong>39 mm<\/strong> model\u00a0is highly sought-after.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" id=\"the-new-rolex-explorer-124270-and-124273-watches\">The new Rolex Explorer 124270 and 124273 watches<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0<strong>Rolex Explorer I<\/strong>\u00a0is, on paper, a whole new watch by\u00a0<strong>Rolex<\/strong>\u00a0standards; we\u2019re eager to find out whether the\u00a036mm\u00a0case size is a winner or not as soon as the first pieces hit the stores. Again,\u00a0<strong>Rolex<\/strong>\u00a0keeps changing some core collections, and the\u00a0<strong>Explorer 2021<\/strong>\u00a0is no different; it holds to the original\u00a0<strong>1953<\/strong>\u00a0model\u00a0as much as the renovated\u00a0<strong>Rolex Submariner<\/strong>\u00a0product line draws inspiration from the slim-lugs case adopted by several 4-digit and 5-digit references.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"novita-rolex-2021-2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/novita-rolex-2021-2.0b2fbc35ffe7.jpeg\" alt=\"novita-rolex-2021-2\">The\u00a0<strong>Rolex calibre 3230<\/strong>\u00a0is a welcome technical upgrade; either the\u00a0<strong>Explorer I<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>Explorer II<\/strong>\u00a0are now housing the state-of-the-art technology, despite being more a standard industrial process to bring the product portfolio to the same technical layout across the ranges rather than a selling point. From a\u00a0<strong>Rolex<\/strong>\u00a0consumer\u2019s perspective, a new movement won\u2019t change anything and is by far not an option for first-time buyers and long-established Rolex fans.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"rolex-explorer-124273-acciaio-oro\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/rolex-explorer-124273-acciaio-oro.9b87f525c7b9.jpeg\" alt=\"rolex-explorer-124273-acciaio-oro\">The new\u00a0<strong>Rolesor Explorer<\/strong>\u00a0is not growing on me, and it\u2019s an option I\u2019ll hardly consider as far as the nameplate\u00a0\u201cExplorer\u201d\u00a0concerns. I see the\u00a0<strong>Rolex Explorer<\/strong>\u00a0as a no-frills rugged\u00a0<strong>Oystersteel\u00a0Rolex<\/strong>, and a full-steel timepiece is the only option I\u2019d value, and to a greater extent too if you\u2019re aiming to pursue the original formula. I can hardly see Italians filling a waiting list for a timepiece retailing for more than some of the most wanted full-steel\u00a0<strong>Rolex<\/strong>\u00a0watches, like a\u00a0<strong>126210LV<\/strong>\u00a0or a\u00a0<strong>GMT Master II<\/strong>, for example.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"rolex-explorer-124273-acciaio-oro-1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/rolex-explorer-124273-acciaio-oro-1.c1beec817e0e.jpeg\" alt=\"rolex-explorer-124273-acciaio-oro-1\">Both variants adopt a new kind of\u00a0<strong>Chromalight<\/strong>\u00a0to boost lume in dim and dark light,\u00a0<strong>Rolex<\/strong>\u00a0claims. I see this upgrade as a further step in the brand\u2019s never-ending quest for leadership against\u00a0<strong>Super-Luminova<\/strong>\u2122, whose latest advancements are indeed impressive.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" id=\"the-new-rolex-explorer-ii-226570\">The new Rolex Explorer II 226570<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While I feel a\u00a0<strong>Rolex Explorer 124270<\/strong>\u00a0being too small when fastened on my wrist, I praise\u00a0<strong>Rolex<\/strong>\u00a0for preserving the new <strong>reference\u00a0226570<\/strong>\u2018s wide\u00a0<strong>42 millimetres<\/strong>\u00a0stance. I spent some quality time comparing old and new ones, and I ended up thinking the <strong>2021<\/strong> model is different at so many levels; first and foremost, let\u2019s talk about the bezel\u2019s and case\u2019s design. According to\u00a0<strong>Rolex<\/strong>\u00a0representatives, the new bracelet is\u00a0<strong>1 mm larger than before<\/strong>, making the straight lugs look and feel slimmer. It is what the designers did when they also sketched the new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/rolex-submariner-126619lb-white-gold-blue-bezel\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Submariner<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, as stated above.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"rolex-explorer-2-226570\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/rolex-explorer-2-226570.837ee334cb00.jpeg\" alt=\"rolex-explorer-2-226570\">However, I find myself confused when I look at how the bezel compares to the old one. The dial-to-bezel ratio looks somewhat misproportioned given its tapered profile, which affects the overall style, in my opinion.\u00a0It\u2019s a pity considering how the watch has stepped up if we add the new\u00a0<strong>Rolex calibre 3285<\/strong>, too. However, if I had to pick one, I\u2019d undoubtedly choose the\u00a0black <strong>Explorer II<\/strong>; the pairing between blackened indexes and hands and the white lacquered dial is less attractive and sober than the full-black product reference.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"rolex-explorer-2-226570-2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/rolex-explorer-2-226570-2.cff2dc8ddcd0.jpeg\" alt=\"rolex-explorer-2-226570-2\">On the dial, you\u2019ll see the same improvements you\u2019ll notice on a basic\u00a0<strong>Explorer<\/strong>, like an improved lume performance.\u00a0All in all, the new\u00a0<strong>Explorer II<\/strong>\u00a0is the\u00a0<strong>GMT Explorer<\/strong>\u00a0we\u2019re used to but less powerful and appealing than other\u00a0<strong>Oystersteel Professional<\/strong>\u00a0watches, thus being a\u00a0\u201cmissed opportunity\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" id=\"the-price-of-the-new-rolex-explorer-2021-and-final-thoughts\">The price of the new Rolex Explorer 2021 and final thoughts<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0<strong>Rolex Explorer 124270<\/strong>\u00a0is an excellent\u00a0\u201cvalue proposition\u201d\u00a0whose\u00a0<strong>6,100 Euros\u00a0retail price<\/strong> is the main door to\u00a0<strong>Rolex<\/strong>\u00a0professional watches. At\u00a0<strong>36 mm<\/strong>, it aims at attracting a broader audience, which I believe includes the Far East more than ever before, according to proportions and options. The new\u00a0<strong>reference 124273<\/strong> in <strong>Rolesor<\/strong>\u00a0exceeds the ten thousand euros threshold, at\u00a0<strong>10,350 euros<\/strong>, and my thought is that it won\u2019t meet\u00a0<strong>Rolex<\/strong>\u00a0purists\u2019 taste.
