They often look as they came from outer space, rather than being the outcome of a co-design project belonging to fashion luxury. The latest co-branding timepiece highlights light gray-white ceramics and involves one of the timepieces under the loupe in <strong>2020<\/strong>, i.e., the <strong>Rado True Square<\/strong>, which we in-depth reviewed in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/rado-true-square-open-heart-watch-hands-on\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Open Heart<\/strong><\/span><\/a> variant.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"rado-formafantasma-2\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/rado-formafantasma-2.bb7c8057c9fb.jpg\" alt=\"rado-formafantasma-2\">The <strong>Rado True Square Formafantasma<\/strong> is a new take on the three hands wristwatch according to design studio <strong>Formafantasma<\/strong>, founded by two Italians who moved and graduated in the <strong>Netherlands<\/strong>. Their projects extend to various industries, with the home decor being their core interest, it seems.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I find it quite intriguing to discover how an interior or fashion designer is taking on any watchmaking piece, even more so when the brand is cutting edge, like <strong>Rado<\/strong>. Ironically, the <strong>Rado True Square Formafantasma<\/strong> looks much closer to a quintessential watchmaking machine than you might think.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The case, sporting a cover on top, reminds early field watches as seen during world war One, from afar, but the <strong>Rado True Square Formafantasma<\/strong> also reminds of cover-protected square timepieces like the never-forgotten <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/the-english-job-the-alfred-dunhill-city-fighter\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Dunhill City Fighter<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, too.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"rado-formafantasma-3\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/rado-formafantasma-3.0d436abbba8d.jpg\" alt=\"rado-formafantasma-3\"><strong>Simone Farresin<\/strong> and <strong>Andrea Trimarchi<\/strong> claimed they took inspiration from vintage pocket watches when sketching the new <strong>Rado True Square Formafantasma<\/strong>, coming in <strong>1001 pieces<\/strong>, whose white-gray ceramic gives an industrial prototype feel to it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Interestingly, the Italian duo is very active in crafting objects adopting experimental materials; therefore, the brand and the designers share the same vision. A ceramic piece is not covering the glass; it is a tiny sapphire-glass window carved out of a solid top case instead.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Measuring <strong>38<\/strong> by <strong>44 millimeters<\/strong>, with a <strong>10,4 mils<\/strong> thickness, the <strong>Formafantasma<\/strong> weighs <strong>125 grams<\/strong> and is water-resistant up to <strong>50 meters<\/strong>. The high-tech ceramic case is an injection-molded glossy single-piece, while the flat cover has a brushed finish.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"rado-formafantasma-4\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/rado-formafantasma-4.320cd2972b3b.jpg\" alt=\"rado-formafantasma-4\">The solid case-back is in titanium and covers the <strong>ETA C07<\/strong> mechanical movement boasting eighty hours of power reserve. I like the project and the outcome, but I believe it\u2019s a trend-setting product, yet not as functional, given how difficult it is to read the time in most conditions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Rado True Square Formafantasma<\/strong> is a luxury accessory and a design item, not your every day three hands if you place functionality on top.
