Citizen<\/strong> celebrates this year the first<\/strong>\u2013ever titanium wristwatch<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u2018s 50<\/strong>th<\/sup> anniversary<\/strong>, quite an achievement in watchmaking. In 1973<\/strong>, the Japanese brand also launched its first Citizen Bullhead Flyback Chronograph<\/strong>, an odd-looking wristwatch, back then, powered by the sophisticated caliber 8110A<\/strong>, featuring flyback function and push-buttons placed at twelve, hence the nickname \u201cTsuno,\u201d<\/em> which means \u201cHorn\u201d<\/em> in Japanese.<\/p>\n

The 2020 commemorative edition<\/strong> embodies fifty years of technical prowess and product innovation and showcases two of Citizen<\/strong>\u2018s state of the art technologies: Eco<\/strong>\u2013Drive<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u2122 and Supertitanium<\/strong>\u2122. It is not Citizen<\/strong>\u2018s very first attempt in combining Supertitanium<\/strong>\u2122 and Eco<\/strong>\u2013Drive<\/strong>\u2122 in a Bullhead<\/strong>, though. If you\u2019re a watch geek, you won\u2019t forget that Citizen<\/strong> introduced a 1000<\/strong>\u2013piece<\/strong> Limited Edition Citizen Super Titanium Bullhead<\/strong>, exclusively available in Singapore<\/strong>, combining both technologies, although not as advanced as this edition, given the continuous evolution and improvement processes ongoing at Citizen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Compared to the new timepiece (a collector posted the photo above on Watchuseek<\/strong>), that model was stylistically closer to the original Bullhead<\/strong>. We think Citizen<\/strong> experimented, with that limited product, how the market could have reacted to a modern Eco<\/strong>\u2013Drive<\/strong>\u2122 powered Bullhead<\/strong>. That Citizen Eco Drive Bullhead<\/strong> collection sold out in a blink of an eye, and it\u2019s virtually impossible to find for sale anywhere on the market, at least not across the most known platforms.<\/p>\n

The 2020 Bullhead<\/strong> or Tsuno Chrono Limited Edition<\/strong> watch offers the state-of-the-art Supertitanium<\/strong>\u2122 (and Eco-Drive\u2122) technology, paired to a steel-finish, and houses one of the most advanced movements available. It is the Eco-Drive E2100 caliber<\/strong>, consisting of 294 parts<\/strong>, powered by Eco<\/strong>\u2013Drive<\/strong>\u2122, which transforms any source of light into energy.<\/p>\n

The 2020 Citizen Bullhead Flyback Chronograph Supertitanium\u2122 watch<\/h2>\n

The case of the Citizen Bullhead Flyback Chronograph Supertitanium<\/strong>\u2122\u00a0is impressive, at 43mm<\/strong>, across, and has mixed satin (bracelet, case side) and polished (bezel, buttons, and crown) finish, the outcome being a steel sports watch touch to it. Also, you\u2019ll notice this edition debuts a sharper design over the outgoing Tsuno<\/strong> range: upper and lower sides of the case\u2019s edges are squared and kind of manga-looking. In our opinion, the new one took inspiration from timepieces like the Citizen Bullhead Challenge Timer ref. 67-9356<\/strong>; take a look at its shape, and you\u2019ll quickly find out they share the same triple-curved edgy top end, for example.<\/p>\n

Nicknamed as \u201cBullhead Octagon\u201d<\/em>, given its odd-looking eight-sided squared shape, the vintage Bullhead<\/strong> has made its modern sibling look different from the 2019 Promaster Bullhead<\/strong>. Protected by a sapphire crystal, the four-register dial comes in two versions, a silver double \u201cpanda\u201d<\/em> with black counters, and a black one with dark gray registers.<\/p>\n

The dial and the main features<\/h2>\n

The Chrono counters are placed on the right-hand side, while at 9 o\u2019clock, there\u2019s the power reserve indicator (the movement ensures an 8-month power reserve when fully charged). There\u2019s an additional tiny hand between 4 and 5 o\u2019clock, which activates the alarm and can be operated by pressing a button located in the lower right-hand side, whose design mimics an Allen screw. Regarding the Citizen Bullhead Flyback Chronograph Supertitanium<\/strong>\u2122\u2019s flyback function, the brand aimed at replicating a mechanical watch\u2019s feel as much as possible: the jump start function is instantaneous, and the push-pieces offer a mechanical chronograph\u2019s feedback. Additionally, the timepiece is guaranteed water-resistant to up to 10atm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Case and bracelet are treated with Citizen<\/strong>\u2018s Duratect<\/strong>\u2122 (Citizen\u2019s proprietary surface-hardening technology) to make it virtually scratchproof. It would be great if Citizen<\/strong> would offer a replacement leather or NATO<\/strong> strap as standard. The Citizen Bullhead Flyback Chronograph Supertitanium<\/strong>\u2122\u00a0watch is, as said, available on a white or black dial (reference AV0080-88E), and retails for Euro 698<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
