If you\u2019re buying the 2020 Porsche 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition<\/strong> (costing a whopping 40k<\/strong>+ Euro<\/strong> over the standard new 911 Targa<\/strong>), you can apply for the matching Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition<\/strong>. It is a new flyback chronograph watch paying tribute to the saga of the 911 Targa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Many are the differences between original and current 911 Targa<\/strong>: who owns or has owned the original one is usually not a fan of the newest ones, and vice versa. It has unstoppably grown up in size and power, from one generation to another; the latest edition is wider, bigger, more refined than ever before, whereas the original 911 Targa<\/strong> was a classic analog car requiring excellent driving skills. However, every new generation has tried and preserved the style and spirit of the first one across the decades.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s what the Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition<\/strong> aims at safeguarding too. Endowed with an original 356<\/strong> inspired tachometer-style dial featuring a two-register layout, it showcases the gold PD<\/strong> logo on the right-hand side, resembling the golden signature \u201cTarga\u201d<\/em> plate placed at the base of a 911 Targa<\/strong> B pillar ever since. I hardly understand and can read, at a glance, the golden and curved 911 Targa 4S <\/strong>inscription placed into the rotating disc at nine (elapsing the running seconds), instead.<\/p>\n

The iconic 1919<\/strong> \u201csuspended\u201d<\/em> case is as \u201c911 4S Targa\u201d<\/em> as it gets. Sporting a titanium case whose hollowed lugs have been bronze PVD<\/strong> treated, the new Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition<\/strong> measures 42mm<\/strong> across and has a strap whose leather derives from that adopted on a 911 Targa 4S Limited Edition\u2019<\/strong>s interiors. It comes available either in purple-red or black. The coolest design cue is the winding rotor; it\u2019s a scale model of the unmistakable Fuchs<\/strong> rim, which is synonymous with a 911 Targa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

That rotor, carrying the Porsche<\/strong> logo in the center, winds up the in-house caliber WERK 01<\/strong>.100<\/strong>, a manufactured movement, according to Porsche Design<\/strong>, beating at 4Hz<\/strong> and offering a (pretty standard in the benchmark) 48<\/strong>\u2013hour<\/strong> power reserve (and Flyback function too).<\/p>\n

The Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition<\/strong> may be regarded as the umpteenth Limited Edition marketing-driven option, and in some regard, it is. However, two are the main differences between this and similar projects. Car and watch come from the same group (Porsche<\/strong> and Porsche Design<\/strong> are sister companies). The new timepiece is exclusively available in 992<\/strong> pieces, as many as the Porsche 992 Targa Heritage Edition<\/strong>, on sale.<\/p>\n

We can only hope such an attractive watch won\u2019t sell out, and Porsche Design<\/strong> will start offering the unsold ones to a bigger audience than the 992 Targa Heritage Edition<\/strong> owners\u2019 group. The 2020 Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design<\/strong> Edition retails for 10<\/strong>,950 Euro<\/strong>.
