{"id":26439,"date":"2021-03-24T14:04:26","date_gmt":"2021-03-24T14:04:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/four-questions-to-jean-christophe-babin-ceo-bulgari\/"},"modified":"2022-01-13T19:58:33","modified_gmt":"2022-01-13T18:58:33","slug":"interview-to-jean-christophe-babin-ceo-bulgari","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/interview-to-jean-christophe-babin-ceo-bulgari\/","title":{"rendered":"Four questions to Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO Bulgari"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During <strong>Baselworld 2019<\/strong>, <strong>Bulgari<\/strong> challenged once again the watchmaking industry and won hands-down when it revealed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/the-bulgari-octo-the-italian-icons-timeline-and-story-so-far\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Bulgari<\/strong> <strong>Octo Finissimo Chronograph<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"jean-christophe-babin-interview-1\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/jean-christophe-babin-interview-1.7b3e94eef28a.jpg\" alt=\"jean-christophe-babin-interview-1\">Rather than considering it a range extender, I would consider it an unexpected take on the standard chronograph instead, and a jab to most Swiss watchmakers that keep offering an old formula, whether you love the <strong>Octo Finissimo<\/strong> or not at all. During those days, we sat down with <strong>Jean<\/strong>\u2013<strong>Christophe Babin<\/strong>, <strong>CEO<\/strong> of <strong>Bulgari<\/strong>, and talked style, product, and service.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" id=\"talking-icons-in-watchmaking-we-can%e2%80%99t-deny-some-of-them-took-years-to-be-successful-the-nautilus-being-a-remarkable-example-conversely-it-seems-the-octo-finissimo-has-a-huge-following-alre\">Talking icons in watchmaking, we can\u2019t deny some of them took years to be successful, the Nautilus being a remarkable example. Conversely, it seems the Octo Finissimo has a huge following already.<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In less than a five-year time, the <strong>Octo Finissimo<\/strong> has opened a new chapter in the modern sports watches\u2019 business. Style, fashion, usability have dramatically evolved, and so have the consumer and luxury products we currently use. The <strong>Octo Finissimo<\/strong> is a trend-setter that reflects modern society, whereas other luxury brands and their products still embody the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century\u2019s culture.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"bulgari-octo-finissimo-automatic-titanium\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/bulgari-octo-finissimo-automatic-titanium.6fe78a213ccb.jpg\" alt=\"bulgari-octo-finissimo-automatic-titanium\">The <strong>Bulgari Octo Finissimo<\/strong> is a game-changer, highly valued for superior versatility and functional style, other than its extraordinary engineering. Carbon, titanium, sandblasted gold: in an Octo Finissimo refined sophistication wins over glittering luxury, and you buy one to please yourself not just as a show-off.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" id=\"the-octo-finissimo%e2%80%99s-offering-is-wide-is%c2%a0there-any-room-for-a-divers%e2%80%99-watch-too\">The Octo Finissimo\u2019s offering is wide, is\u00a0there any room for a divers\u2019 watch too?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">That is the type of question I would expect, given that Italians are crazy for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/diving-watches\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>divers<\/strong>\u2018 <strong>watches<\/strong><\/span><\/a>. In our case, we have an advantage because it is easier to grow your watch throughout when you\u2019re initially slim, rather than growing an already large watch, out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"bulgari-octo-finissimo-chronograph-GMT-3\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/bulgari-octo-finissimo-chronograph-GMT-3-snlhlQe.15085cb5b546.jpg\" alt=\"bulgari-octo-finissimo-chronograph-GMT-3\">The <strong>Octo Finissimo<\/strong>\u2018s platform came out as a base model to allow more sporty variants along the way: the <strong>GMT chronograph<\/strong> is the first outcome. However, the <strong>Octo<\/strong>\u2018s success builds on powerful aesthetics and product consistency, by using one material on each watch and moving forward carefully, one step at a time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"jean-christophe-babin-interview\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/jean-christophe-babin-interview.69193295d47e.jpg\" alt=\"jean-christophe-babin-interview\">To answer your question, making a divers\u2019 watch is feasible, but making an <strong>Octo Finissimo divers<\/strong>\u2018 <strong>watch<\/strong> is a difficult task in that you need to preserve the product\u2019s <strong>DNA<\/strong> while re-engineering the dial for functional purposes, for example. Currently not the priority, in our roadmap.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" id=\"if-we-compare-watches-for-him-to-those-for-her-it-seems-the-octo-finissimo-is-geared-towards-men-almost-exclusively\">If we compare watches for him to those for her, it seems the Octo Finissimo is geared towards men almost exclusively.<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Finissimo<\/strong> is <strong>40mm<\/strong> wide, suited for women but preferred by men, in our opinion. The truth is that we are not 100% sure of who\u2019s wearing an <strong>Octo Finissimo<\/strong>, considering that a woman who\u2019s stepping into our boutique might be buying the watch as a gift to her boyfriend, or the other way round. We\u2019re not able to breakdown our sales by gender, to date.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Bulgari-Octo-Skeleton-bdinner-Roma\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/Bulgari-Octo-Skeleton-bdinner-Roma.ff01b4e9e14e.jpg\" alt=\"Bulgari-Octo-Skeleton-bdinner-Roma\">What I can affirm instead is that, given the <strong>Octo<\/strong> also comes on a leather strap, it is a woman\u2019s favorite choice, usually. More options are underway that offer a strap instead in replacement of solid metal or ceramic bracelets.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" id=\"regarding-customer-service-watch-brands-are-investing-a-lot-in-customer%c2%a0experience-which-is-your-approach-and-how-you%e2%80%99re-managing-an-octo-finissimo-gold%e2%80%99s-buying-experience-for\">Regarding Customer Service, watch brands are investing a lot in customer\u00a0experience, which is your approach and how you\u2019re managing an Octo Finissimo Gold\u2019s buying experience, for example.<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We aim at building a lasting relationship with every potential customer that crosses over our boutique\u2019s door, up-front, by making his or her experience as rewarding and effortless as possible. It is no different whether that person is looking for a steel or gold <strong>Octo<\/strong>.
