{"id":26432,"date":"2020-06-25T20:18:30","date_gmt":"2020-06-25T20:18:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/hublot-classic-fusion-ferrari-gt\/"},"modified":"2024-05-18T18:01:17","modified_gmt":"2024-05-18T16:01:17","slug":"hublot-classic-fusion-ferrari-gt-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/hublot-classic-fusion-ferrari-gt-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Introducing the Hublot Classic Fusion Ferrari GT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many are the partnerships in force between a <strong>Formula One<\/strong> car maker and a watch brand, just a few, however, are as enduring as the one signed by <strong>Ferrari<\/strong> and <strong>Hublot<\/strong> in <strong>2011<\/strong>, soon after the \u201c<em>Prancing Horse<\/em>\u201d had closed their short experience with an Italian brand instead.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over the course of these years, the <strong>Scuderia Ferrari <\/strong>has changed management and engineers, yet old and new team members sported and still do a <strong>Hublot<\/strong> watch when caught on camera during a <strong>Formula 1 Grand Prix<\/strong> weekend.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Also, <strong>Sergio<\/strong> <strong>Marchionne<\/strong>, while attending a race, was used to wrap a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/5-minutes-wrist-hublot-big-bang-unico-italia-independent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Hublot Big Bang<\/strong><\/span><\/a> around his wrist. It was and still is not just a matter of sponsorship, in my opinion, given the technical prowess and allure of a <strong>Hublot<\/strong> watch.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" id=\"hublot-and-ferrari-like-pininfarina-and-ferrari-but-with-their-roles-reversed\">Hublot and Ferrari like Pininfarina and Ferrari, but with their roles reversed.<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Co-branding has radically changed; just adding a team\u2019s logo and colors to an existing timepiece doesn\u2019t work any longer. Co-branding has slightly turned itself into something that has more to do with technical partnership, where the <strong>R<\/strong>&amp;<strong>D<\/strong> departments from two or more brands join their forces and expertise to create cutting-edge products.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is the same approach we were used to during the good old days of car design, where a design firm was in charge of a car\u2019s exterior. Today, each new <strong>Ferrari<\/strong> is entirely sketched and designed by the <strong>Ferrari Design Center<\/strong> and, ironically, the <strong>Ferrari Design Center<\/strong> was responsible for drawing the lines of a new wristwatch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Hublot-Classic-Fusion-Ferrari-GT\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/Hublot-Classic-Fusion-Ferrari-GT.49a4f70001f1.jpg\" alt=\"Hublot-Classic-Fusion-Ferrari-GT\">The strategy of insourcing a new car\u2019s design is familiar to most hi-performance cars manufacturers today, including <strong>Aston Martin<\/strong>, <strong>Lamborghini<\/strong>, and many others, and has marked the end of an era where design firms like <strong>Pininfarina<\/strong>, <strong>Bertone<\/strong>, <strong>Italdesign<\/strong>, ruled.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" id=\"hublot-classic-fusion-ferrari-gt-are-you-the-next-big-bang\">Hublot Classic Fusion Ferrari GT: are you the next Big Bang?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I believe that <strong>Hublot<\/strong> had to come with a new design, and launch a collection to strengthen the technical partnership between <strong>Nyon<\/strong> and <strong>Maranello<\/strong> further while developing an alternative to the multi-layered signature <strong>Big Bang<\/strong> case. The current trend, in the high-tech and high-end business, is to produce a one-piece case, as <strong>Hublot<\/strong> did when it originally introduced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/hublot-techframe-ferrari-70-years-tourbillon-chronograph-watch-hands-on\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Techframe<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Flavio-Manzoni-Ferrari-Head-of-Design\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/Flavio-Manzoni-Ferrari-Head-of-Design.21ed100db48b.jpg\" alt=\"Flavio-Manzoni-Ferrari-Head-of-Design\">In doing so, both brands set-up a joint development team by involving designers and engineers coming from both <strong>R<\/strong>&amp;<strong>D<\/strong> teams. It is not anything new, considering <strong>Ferrari<\/strong> and <strong>Hublot<\/strong> jointly created the super-exclusive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/the-hublot-mp05-laferrari-titanium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>LaFerrari<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, but the <strong>Hublot Classic Fusion Ferrari GT<\/strong> is an unexpected and more accessible take on the classic sports chronograph and the first-ever entirely designed by <strong>Ferrari<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Hublot-Classic-Fusion-Ferrari-GT-Titanium\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/Hublot-Classic-Fusion-Ferrari-GT-Titanium.22197447d55f.jpg\" alt=\"Hublot-Classic-Fusion-Ferrari-GT-Titanium\">The outcome is an almost single-looking structure, showcasing a central case secured to an outer frame via the patented <strong>Hublot<\/strong> screws in the shape of an <strong>H<\/strong>. The lugs are fully integrated and extend to create a somewhat mixed strap design. The overall look reminds me of the very first <strong>Hublot<\/strong> watches, those belonging to the pre-<strong>LVMH<\/strong> age.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I reckon <strong>Hublot<\/strong> was looking for a streamlined and simplified design in comparison to the latest bulky and somehow over-designed <strong>Big Bang<\/strong> editions; I believe therefore we\u2019re not in front of a one-off exercise.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Hublot-Classic-Fusion-Ferrari-GT-King-Gold-1\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/Hublot-Classic-Fusion-Ferrari-GT-King-Gold-1.7d8f1b3e79b9.jpg\" alt=\"Hublot-Classic-Fusion-Ferrari-GT-King-Gold-1\"> The dial is a nod to a <strong>Ferrari GT<\/strong>\u2018s dashboard: the font is the same for example, and the two Chrono counter layout draws inspiration from a sports car\u2019s analog gauges although the latest <strong>Ferrari<\/strong> to date, the <strong>SF90 Stradale<\/strong>, sports a fully digital dashboard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Hublot-Classic-Fusion-Ferrari-GT-3D-Carbon\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/Hublot-Classic-Fusion-Ferrari-GT-3D-Carbon.9eb2bb2b9b58.jpg\" alt=\"Hublot-Classic-Fusion-Ferrari-GT-3D-Carbon\">The <strong>Classic Fusion Ferrari GT<\/strong> in <strong>King Gold<\/strong> highlights better than any other version the contrast between the <strong>45 <\/strong>mm wide case with a two-register dial design and the <strong>Unico<\/strong> caliber that is visible through a sapphire glass, with the column wheel mechanism placed on the dial side.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Hublot<\/strong> launched three versions of the <strong>Classic Fusion Ferrari GT<\/strong> at <strong>Baselworld 2019<\/strong>: one in <strong>titanium<\/strong>, one in <strong>King Gold<\/strong> and a tech-savvy<strong> 3D carbon fiber composite<\/strong> for a total production of <strong>2000 pieces<\/strong> (<strong>1000<\/strong> for the titanium version, and <strong>500<\/strong> for the other two). All of them are powered by the <strong>Unico caliber HUB1280<\/strong> featuring a <strong>Flyback<\/strong> function and three days of maximum power reserve.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"final-thoughts\">Final thoughts<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rather than three new limited edition watches, I\u2019d instead consider this collection a <strong>Ferrari<\/strong>\u2018s take on the classic <strong>Hublot<\/strong> sports chronograph. After growing and inflating the <strong>Big Bang<\/strong>, while exploring new territories with the <strong>Techframe<\/strong>, <strong>Hublot<\/strong> comes with a new option, i.e., a modern interpretation of a vaguely 70s case inspired sports chronograph, showcasing a mixed metal and leather bracelet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I like the idea, carbon version excluded, as I think the contrast between the metal sandblasted curvy case and the partially visible mechanical movement is what makes the <strong>Classic Fusion Ferrari GT<\/strong> different, and that distinctive trait is missing on the full carbon. A winner or a loser?
