In <strong>2019<\/strong>, the brand extends the <strong>Clifton Club<\/strong> offering by adding a variant crafted in bronze, a trend that is quite common in the industry and seemed to be a gamble, when the first bronze watches appeared a few years ago. <strong>Baume &amp; Mercier<\/strong> offers not one but four bronze watches, thus reinforcing the mission statement of the <strong>Clifton Club<\/strong>, whereas the <strong>Baumatic<\/strong> keeps representing the pillar of the brand aimed at tech-savvy enthusiasts, other than being a best-in-class in its segment, in terms of performances.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic.3d624d68fdd5.jpg\" alt=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic\">If we exclude incredible partnerships like the ones signed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/baume-mercier-clifton-club-shelby-cobra-csx-2299-limited-edition-hands-on-sihh\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Shelby Cobra<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and, more recently, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/with-baume-et-mercier-and-indian-motorcycles-at-the-vairano-racetrack\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Indian Motorcycles<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the latter turning towards the end of its life cycle, the <strong>Clifton Club<\/strong> collection represents the flagship sporty take on the <strong>Clifton<\/strong>. Nevertheless, the freshly released bronze product offering might look like a lost opportunity or the last call, in the benchmark. Which is <strong>Baume &amp; Mercier<\/strong>\u2018s playground given that most brands already offer a wristwatch with a bronze case since a long time, included brands belonging to the same industrial group like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/iwc-big-pilots-watch-perpetual-calendar-spitfire-bronze-iw503601\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>IWC<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/panerai-luminor-submersible-1950-3-days-bronzo-pam671-watch-hands-on\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Panerai<\/strong><\/span><\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/montblanc-1858-geosphere-limited-edition-green-khaki-2019-sihh-horbiter\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Montblanc<\/strong><\/span><\/a> for example?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-green-dial-10503-cinque\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-green-dial-10503-cinque.81ed562f64be.jpg\" alt=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-green-dial-10503-cinque\">Price point apart, <strong>Baume &amp; Mercier<\/strong> has a far different brand positioning, the distinctive element comes mostly from the <strong>Clifton Club<\/strong>\u2018s design architecture, where the replacement of steel with bronze adds a fresh new touch. Considering the brand\u2019s pedigree, <strong>Baume &amp; Mercier<\/strong> could have easily drawn inspiration from its archives. Designers moved forward instead while taking some dust off the beloved <strong>Riviera<\/strong>, in my opinion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-brown-dial-10501\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-brown-dial-10501.b8e44c0004ed.jpg\" alt=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-brown-dial-10501\">The dial showcases details that made the <strong>Riviera<\/strong> collection so successful in the nineties, while colors and combinations are a nod to the <strong>Riviera XXL<\/strong>, the very last iteration before the brand eventually discontinued the whole collection: the brand logo is oversized, and it is the first thing you notice, up-close.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-black-dial-10500\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-black-dial-10500.53098de3522e.jpg\" alt=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-black-dial-10500\">It is applied at twelve and replaces an otherwise trivial baton or triangle-shaped one. I found out, by the way, the <strong>Riviera<\/strong> is quite sought-after, and its quotations on the second-hand market are steadily growing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Baume &amp; Mercier Clifton Club Bronze<\/strong> features a somewhat multi-tier dial: the outermost is the minute ring and includes baton-shaped indices. The second \u201c<em>layer<\/em>\u201d is a single-tone ring that surrounds the central part where the <strong>Baume &amp; Mercier<\/strong> wording is printed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-green-dial-10503\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-green-dial-10503.61d3448bce6e.jpg\" alt=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-green-dial-10503\"><strong>Baume &amp; Mercier<\/strong> offers the following versions of the <strong>Clifton Club Bronze<\/strong>: two come with full bronze case and bezel, mated to an olive-green or black dial respectively, whereas the other two ones add a black bezel insert to complement a blue or brown dial. The \u201c<em>green<\/em>\u2013<em>gold<\/em>\u201d version works pretty well, and I reckon that\u2019s the reason why it is currently the most popular combo on the market.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-blue-dial-10502\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-blue-dial-10502.ae1971495783.jpg\" alt=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-blue-dial-10502\">My choice goes, no doubt, to the bronze and blue version; designers at <strong>Baume &amp; Mercier<\/strong> opted for a matte blue Pantone that combines with black bezel and bronze crafted case almost seamlessly. Additionally, when you\u2019re choosing your new <strong>Baume &amp; Mercier Clifton Club Bronze<\/strong>, let please your imagination work: the natural oxidation process will tend to transform the case into something different and more opaque, a feat you need to consider when buying any bronze watch. This effect is undoubtedly stronger where case and bezel are full bronze.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-black-dial-10501-uno\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-black-dial-10501-uno-gnb72jm.470776204cc6.jpg\" alt=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-black-dial-10501-uno\">Among the success factors of any <strong>Clifton Club<\/strong>, as I highlighted already when I reviewed the original collection back in <strong>2017<\/strong>, during that year\u2019s <strong>SIHH<\/strong>, I\u2019d mention its reduced case thickness: at <strong>10<\/strong>.<strong>3mm<\/strong>, it guarantees excellent comfort and, if we take into account it\u2019s a sport watch, that\u2019s a great achievement. The case is reasonably sized, and at <strong>42mm<\/strong> in width, it\u2019s absolutely in line with current market trend.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-green-dial-10503-uno\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-green-dial-10503-uno.12b2757adbb4.jpg\" alt=\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-42-mm-bronze-automatic-green-dial-10503-uno\"><strong>Baume &amp; Mercier<\/strong> wins hands down the competition for best-crafted <strong>NATO<\/strong> strap ever, and most comfortable summer strap either. Not only is it super soft, but it\u2019s also carefully designed, has a nicely personalized pin buckle and is in rubber. If you want to replace it, you can easily opt for any other pin-buckle or folding clasp strap, with the former being my favorite option. Prices?
