Two thousand nineteen will mark the celebrations of fifty years from the first moon landing, along with the comeback of one of the most attractive mechanical movements in the brand's history too. <strong>Omega<\/strong> is, in fact, about to launch a modern re-edition of the original<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/the-omega-speedmaster-calibre-321-qa-with-federico-nolfi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff\">caliber 321<\/span><\/a><\/strong>. The <strong>caliber 321<\/strong> was one of the best if not the most refined hand-wound chronograph of its time: released in the early 40s and produced until <strong>1968<\/strong>, it was the first movement ever to equip a <strong>Speedmaster<\/strong>, in particular, the\u00a0<strong>1957 <\/strong>version. The <strong>Speedmaster ST 105<\/strong>.<strong>003<\/strong>, tested and certified by <strong>NASA<\/strong> and worn by astronaut <strong>Ed White<\/strong>, and the <strong>Speedmaster ST 105<\/strong>.<strong>102<\/strong>, the first watch an astronaut wore on the moon, were originally equipped with this chronograph movement, whose main features included a column wheel mechanism and a\u00a0horizontal clutch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Omega-Calibre-321\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/Omega-Calibre-321.62ad4023d36f.jpg\" style=\"width:100%\" title=\"Omega-Calibre-321\">A team of experts was created over two years at the <strong>Omega<\/strong>'s headquarter in Bienne. They worked in absolute secrecy and industrialized a faithful reproduction of the second version of the original <strong>caliber 321<\/strong>, the one that equipped all the <strong>Speedmasters<\/strong> used during the <strong>Apollo<\/strong>\u00a0Space Program's missions. It is too early to confirm which timepiece will ever encase the 2019 <strong>caliber 321<\/strong>, it might be a <strong>Speedmaster 57<\/strong>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/?p=25860\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff\"><strong>Moonwatch<\/strong><\/span><\/a> or both, but there's no doubt they will all be niche products with a price point higher than any current <strong>Speedmaster<\/strong>'s.
