{"id":26318,"date":"2021-03-27T06:18:12","date_gmt":"2021-03-27T06:18:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/the-f-p-journe-linesport-chronograph-monopoussoir-rattrapante\/"},"modified":"2025-06-18T23:12:18","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T21:12:18","slug":"fp-journe-linesport-chronograph-monopoussoir-rattrapante-watch-hands-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/fp-journe-linesport-chronograph-monopoussoir-rattrapante-watch-hands-on\/","title":{"rendered":"The F.P.Journe LineSport Chronograph Monopoussoir Rattrapante"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>F<\/strong>.<strong>P<\/strong>.<strong>Journe<\/strong> represents the pinnacle of fine watchmaking and is one of the best ambassadors of the Swiss watchmaking tradition in haute-horlogerie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The brand\u2019s <strong>2000<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>sqm<\/strong>\u00a0workshop based in <strong>Geneva<\/strong>, that I had the chance\u00a0to visit during a private event hosted by <strong>Watchonista<\/strong>\u00a0in <strong>2017<\/strong>, is the place where the master watchmaker himself designs, develops and looks after all the activities geared\u00a0towards producing\u00a0<strong>no more than 1000 watches a year<\/strong> \u2013 a figure that is small enough to confirm how everything is made in compliance with the oldest Swiss watchmaking tradition\u2019s rules, every watch is assembled by hand and almost all components are 100% produced in-house.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is that kind of \u201c<strong>haute horlogerie<\/strong>\u201d we are particularly in love with and\u00a0the brand is among those ones that have preserved the exclusivity of the\u00a0Swiss watch industry over the years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium-5\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium-5.7d1f81e956f2.jpg\" alt=\"fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium-5\">In keeping with\u00a0a tradition that looks somehow radical, each\u00a0<strong>F<\/strong>.<strong>P<\/strong>.<strong>Journe<\/strong>\u00a0timepiece\u00a0is equipped with a mechanical movement crafted in <strong>gold<\/strong>, a rare choice that ideally links this small workshop to another one, <strong>Parmigiani Fleurier<\/strong>, that\u00a0used the same approach when they designed the<strong>\u00a0Kalpa Chronograph<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium-2\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium-2.c3c9f13c4901.jpg\" alt=\"fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium-2\">How can you abide by these rules and simultaneously design a <strong>titanium watch<\/strong> that might easily \u201cdilute\u201d this pedigree, on paper?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">No wonder, as long as you adopt those same rules also when you\u2019re into designing a sports watch. It all started some years ago when the brand decided to launch a new sports line of watches aimed at satisfying the desire of a single collector to wear a sportier timepiece than a\u00a0<strong>Souverain Tourbillon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium-3\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium-3.15b385c9ecd7.jpg\" alt=\"fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium-3\">The\u00a0outcome was\u00a0the new <strong>LineSport<\/strong> collection where\u00a0<strong>F<\/strong>.<strong>P<\/strong>.<strong>Journe<\/strong>\u00a0explored new territories, by coupling\u00a0an <strong>ultra<\/strong>\u2013<strong>light<\/strong> <strong>case<\/strong> to an <strong>ultra-light<\/strong> <strong>movement<\/strong>, for the very first time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>titanium case<\/strong> enclosed\u00a0an\u00a0<strong>aluminum<\/strong>\u2013<strong>alloy<\/strong>\u00a0made movement equipped with a <strong>titanium rotor<\/strong> and a <strong>tungsten segment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Octa S<\/strong> was officially born and it was the first one out of a collection that includes today various timepieces, some\u00a0of them boasting one of the mechanical complications that made <strong>F<\/strong>.<strong>P<\/strong>.<strong>Journe<\/strong> so popular among enthusiasts and collectors alike:\u00a0the <strong>chronograph<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"fp-Journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Red-Gold-calibre-1518-1\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/fp-Journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Red-Gold-calibre-1518-1.10fc83a07475.jpg\" alt=\"fp-Journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Red-Gold-calibre-1518-1\">The <strong>F<\/strong>.<strong>P<\/strong>.<strong>Journe\u00a0LineSport<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Monopoussoir Rattrapante Titanium Chronograph<\/strong> is the latest addition to the\u00a0<strong>LineSport<\/strong> collection.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sportiness and luxury have never looked so good together and that\u2019s the reason why the new <strong>Rattrappante<\/strong> is also available in <strong>red gold<\/strong> and <strong>platinum 950<\/strong>, featuring a caliber crafted in <strong>pink<\/strong> or <strong>red gold<\/strong> respectively.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium.3b1362508a9f.jpg\" alt=\"fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium\">Although a <strong>F<\/strong>.<strong>P<\/strong>.<strong>Journe\u00a0LineSport\u00a0Chronograph\u00a0Monopoussoir Rattrapante Titanium<\/strong>\u00a0is sportier than any other <strong>F<\/strong>.<strong>P<\/strong>.<strong>Journe<\/strong>\u00a0timepiece belonging to the <strong>LineSport<\/strong> collection, as you can easily perceive from the <strong>tachymeter scale printed on the ceramic inlay<\/strong>, the <strong>F<\/strong>.<strong>P<\/strong>.<strong>Journe\u00a0LineSport\u00a0Chronograph Monopoussoir Rattrapante<\/strong> has all those\u00a0characteristics that made every\u00a0<strong>F<\/strong>.<strong>P<\/strong>.<strong>Journe<\/strong>\u2018s\u00a0look and feel unique, like the original font used for the applied Arabic numerals and the <strong>oversized date<\/strong>, one of the most recognizable and legible ones so far (along\u00a0with\u00a0<strong>Lange<\/strong>\u2018s and <strong>Glash\u00fctte Original<\/strong>\u2018s ones) or the two chrono registers surrounded by two screwed-in\u00a0plates applied to the dial, a <strong>F<\/strong>.<strong>P<\/strong>.<strong>Journe<\/strong>\u2018s hallmark.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium-1\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium-1.ae8181f16159.jpg\" alt=\"fp-journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Titanium-1\">The <strong>F<\/strong>.<strong>P<\/strong>.<strong>Journe<\/strong> <strong>Chronograph Monopoussoir Rattrapante Titanium<\/strong> is <strong>44m<\/strong> wide and just <strong>12mm<\/strong> thick, thus combining <strong>lightness<\/strong> and <strong>extreme wearability<\/strong>, a result that was achieved thanks to the\u00a0<strong>hand-wound\u00a0caliber 1518<\/strong>, a <strong>3Hz<\/strong> and <strong>80<\/strong>\u2013<strong>hour<\/strong>\u2013<strong>power<\/strong>\u2013<strong>reserve\u00a0<\/strong>in-house (conceived and crafted) movement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The power reserve is quite impressive and guarantees you can use the double chronograph, that usually requires a lot of energy to work, for at least three full days.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The titanium version is the sportiest of the three versions available and is the only one whose two sub-dials are made from a <strong>sapphire disk<\/strong>, thus allowing to admire the gearings of the <strong>caliber 1518<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"fp-Journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Red-Gold-calibre-1518\" src=\"\/media\/CACHE\/images\/uploads\/fp-Journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Red-Gold-calibre-1518.0a044ecde440.jpg\" alt=\"fp-Journe-Chronographe-Monopoussoire-Rattrapante-Red-Gold-calibre-1518\">It is probably not my favourite\u00a0<strong>F<\/strong>.<strong>P<\/strong>.<strong>Journe<\/strong>\u2018s timepiece but I have to admit it is the the only high-end chronograph out there that successfully combines a <strong>sporty chronograph style<\/strong> with one of the most refined <strong>double chronograph movements\u00a0<\/strong>ever made, in which each part is finely decorated by hand: <strong>C\u00f4tes de Gen\u00e9ve<\/strong>, <strong>perlage<\/strong>, <strong>beveled bridges<\/strong> are just some of the decorations made by the master watchmakers at <strong>F<\/strong>.<strong>P<\/strong>.<strong>Journe<\/strong> on each caliber, whose features can be somehow only found at Villeret.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>F<\/strong>.<strong>P<\/strong>.<strong>Journe<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>LineSport<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Chronograph Monopoussoir Rattrapante<\/strong> retails for <strong>58,000<\/strong> CHF in the <strong>titanium<\/strong> version, <strong>78,000<\/strong> CHF in the <strong>red gold<\/strong> version and
