For some years now, Seiko<\/strong> has been offered its own interpretation of\u00a0the enameled dial \u2013 a feature that quickly brought the 2016 Presage<\/strong>\u00a0collection to its current fame. In its chrono version, with a white\u00a0dial, this collection was met with incredible critical acclaim \u2013 it\u00a0sports an extremely clean style, a symmetrical case, pump buttons and\u00a0a no frills but prestigious crafting technique. All these\u00a0characteristics, coupled with a competitive price, have decreted the\u00a0immediate success of this collection.<\/p>\n

About the\u00a0Presage collection.<\/h2>\n

Seiko<\/strong> \u201csince 1881<\/em>\u201d (the editing of the pay-off\u00a0 is not random, as it\u00a0aims to highlight the noble origins of the great Japanese integrated\u00a0manufacturing company) continues to invest in the development of the\u00a0Presage<\/strong> collection that, today, represents one of the milestones in\u00a0the brand\u2019s offer, due to its rare mix of crafting quality, reliable\u00a0mechanics (one of Seiko<\/strong>\u2019s creeds) and its measured style.<\/p>\n

The Seiko\u00a0Presage<\/strong> timepieces are great value for money, and they are an\u00a0excellent opportunity to treat yourself to a classic Seiko<\/strong> watch that\u00a0draws its inspiration from the best of Japanese culture.<\/p>\n

Japanese tradition in the enameling technique.<\/h2>\n

One of the strengths of the Seiko Presage<\/strong> is its ability to originally\u00a0convey the best of the Japanese artistic tradition \u2013 if the Prospex<\/strong>\u00a0timepieces represent the quintessence of that technological research\u00a0applied to the world of professional diving, the Seiko Presage<\/strong>\u00a0timepieces, on the other hand, debuted showing what the art of\u00a0Japanese enamelling really is.<\/p>\n

This is a special type of art that\u00a0Seiko<\/strong> is familiar with and that was used already, when the\u00a0manufacturing company crafted its complicated high-end watches branded\u00a0Credor<\/strong> (Seiko<\/strong>\u2019s top of the range collection that has not reached\u00a0Europe yet and that is almost unknown in Italy).<\/p>\n

The now so common\u00a0blue dial,\u00a0which is found in millions of different pantones on the\u00a0watch market, features its own special interpretation on the new Seiko\u00a0Presage Shippo Enamel Limited Edition<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

\"Ando-Cloisonne-Company-Vase-with-Flowering-Cherry-and-Birds-Walters-44708-Back\"Seiko<\/strong> brought back to life the\u00a017th<\/sup> century Shippo<\/strong> enameling technique crafted according to tradition\u00a0by Ando Cloisonn\u00e9<\/strong> \u2013 an ancient Japanese company founded in 1800<\/strong> and\u00a0specialized in the creation of items (especially vases) using the\u00a0Cloisonn\u00e9<\/em> technique.<\/p>\n

Ando Cloisonn\u00e9<\/strong> is one of the very few historic\u00a0Japanese companies that is still active in this sector and that still\u00a0uses the Cloisonn\u00e9<\/em> technique\u00a0(called Shippo in Japanese), it is\u00a0headquartered in Nagoya<\/strong>, where the brand\u2019s museum is also located.<\/p>\n

\"seiko-presage-Shippo-Enamel-Limited-Edition-SPB075-SPB075\"Wataru Totani <\/strong>\u2013 an expert master in the Cloisonn\u00e9 technique \u2013 enameled\u00a0by hand each one of the 5,000 dials of the two versions of the Seiko\u00a0Presage Shippo Enamel Limited Edition<\/strong>; the Seiko Presage Shippo Enamel\u00a0Limited Edition Power Reserve SPB073<\/strong><\/span> and the Seiko Presage Shippo\u00a0Enamel Limited Edition SPB075<\/strong>. Once crafted, the enameled dial is\u00a0baked in the oven at 800\u00b0 C, this process is then\u00a0repeated (enameling\u00a0and baking) until Wataru has obtained the desired finishing level and\u00a0a perfectly uniform surface.<\/p>\n

\"seiko-presage-Shippo-Enamel-Limited-Edition-SPB073-uno\"The end result is a wave motif very\u00a0similar to what we know in Europe with the term \u201cFlinqu\u00e9<\/em>\u201c, but much\u00a0more vivid, due to the effects of the Shippo technique. Seiko<\/strong>\u2019s goal\u00a0is to obtain a motif that reminds us of the waves moving in the\u00a0oceans, while the blue color represents the depths of the oceans.<\/p>\n

Case and dial.<\/h2>\n

The dial of the Seiko Presage Shippo Enamel Limited Edition<\/strong> features\u00a0elongated Roman numerals applied to a blue dial and the classic\u00a0central seconds hand with an half-moon shaped balance wheel. Both are\u00a0distinctive marks of the Presage<\/strong> collection.<\/p>\n

Inserted between the dial\u00a0and the glass lies a big inclined seconds ring crafted in an opaque\u00a0blue color that adds great depth to the dial. The only drawback is the\u00a0\u201cAutomatic<\/em>\u201d writing found on the Power Reserve<\/strong> version\u00a0 as it makes it\u00a0look slightly cluttered.<\/p>\n

\"seiko-presage-Shippo-Enamel-Limited-Edition-SPB075-due\"The case\u2019s size is below 41mm<\/strong> (40.6mm to be\u00a0more precise) on the Power Reserve<\/strong> version (the case is 14.1mm thick),\u00a0while it measures 40mm<\/strong> on the Automatic<\/strong> version (12.4mm on the wrist).\u00a0Both versions come with a blue alligator leather strap with a folding\u00a0clasp and a buckle featuring an engraved Seiko<\/strong> logo.<\/p>\n

Retail price, availability and my personal evaluation.<\/h2>\n

Whether you are or not a fan of Seiko<\/strong> and of its strong dials, these\u00a0timepieces are well-proportioned and objectively fascinating, The\u00a0Seiko Presage Shippo Enamel Limited Edition<\/strong> retail at \u20ac1,450<\/strong> and \u20ac1,650<\/strong>, respectively. The dial is hypnotic, the two calibers (the 6R15<\/strong>\u00a0and the 6R27<\/strong>) are two powerful mechanical movements running at a\u00a0frequency of 4Hz<\/strong> and 3Hz<\/strong>, respectively, with an acceptable power\u00a0reserve.<\/p>\n

What is most important, however, is that they can withstand\u00a0magnetic fields up to 4800<\/strong> A\/m \u2013 an increasingly useful feature in a\u00a0world, where interactions with magnetic fields are increasing by the\u00a0day.<\/p>\n

\"seiko-presage-Shippo-Enamel-Limited-Edition-SPB075-tre\"Everything is condensed within two limited series that are now\u00a0accessible to everybody \u2013 if I were to interpret the growth of\u00a0positioning and offer that Seiko<\/strong> is currently implementing, I am sure\u00a0that these timepieces will be sold out in no time and will be proposed\u00a0again, in their next edition, at a higher retail price.<\/p>\n
