{"id":26222,"date":"2020-06-25T20:18:37","date_gmt":"2020-06-25T20:18:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/blancpain-fifty-fathoms-and-gianluca-genoni\/"},"modified":"2021-11-26T15:19:19","modified_gmt":"2021-11-26T15:19:19","slug":"blancpain-fifty-fathoms-gianluca-genoni-diving-event-montegrotto-terme-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/blancpain-fifty-fathoms-gianluca-genoni-diving-event-montegrotto-terme-event\/","title":{"rendered":"With a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and Gianluca Genoni, underwater"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We often talk about preserving our seas and many watch-manufacturers are highly involved in this matter, <strong>Blancpain<\/strong>\u00a0in particular and the event organized by the brand aimed at clearly showing us who it supports and how it supports it. <strong>Blancpain<\/strong>\u2019s invite was directed to a very few selected journalists and dealers and it took me to the <strong>Y<\/strong>\u2013<strong>40<\/strong>; the deepest swimming pool in the world (<strong>42 metres<\/strong>) located in <strong>Montegrotto Terme<\/strong>, nearby <strong>Padua<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-8\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-8.jpg\" alt=\"Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-8\">I had already seen this swimming pool in a documentary and I had been very impressed by it, but I have to admit that seeing it live was absolutely amazing; the sliding doors of the building hosting the pool lead you to the hall, where you can already see the first <strong>5 metres<\/strong> of the pool through glass doors and a wonderful tunnel that goes through it and takes you to the edge of the pool and to the changing rooms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-9\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-9.jpg\" alt=\"Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-9\">Our special trainer for the day was <strong>Gianluca Genoni<\/strong>; the holder of <strong>18 world records<\/strong> in freediving and <strong>Blancpain<\/strong>\u2019s ambassador, but, most of all, a wonderful person, who was always ready to answer my many questions. I was particularly struck by finding out that, when freediving, your body automatically lowers its heart beat level and when <em>Gianluca<\/em> reaches a <strong>160<\/strong>\u2013<strong>metre<\/strong>\u2013<strong>depth<\/strong>, his heart rate falls to about <strong>12 beats per minute<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-10\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-10.jpg\" alt=\"Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-10\"><em>Gianluca<\/em>\u2019s\u00a0<strong>18 freediving awards<\/strong> include the following ones; freediving to a <strong>160<\/strong>\u2013<strong>metre<\/strong>\u2013<strong>depth<\/strong>, <strong>breath<\/strong>\u2013<strong>hold<\/strong> <strong>diving<\/strong> (18 minutes and 3 seconds) after a pre-diving oxygen breathing session, <strong>breath<\/strong>\u2013<strong>hold<\/strong> <strong>diving<\/strong> (8 minutes and 15 seconds) with no pre-diving oxygen breathing session. <em>Gianluca<\/em> also shares <strong>Blancpain<\/strong>\u2019s mission aimed at preserving our seas and, with the manufacturer\u2019s support, he also tries to teach the breath-hold diving technique with what I would call a contagious enthusiasm. In my opinion, he has definitely reached his goal!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Blancpain-Tribute-to-Fifty-Fathoms-Mil-Spec\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Blancpain-Tribute-to-Fifty-Fathoms-Mil-Spec_kqsklSq.jpg\" alt=\"Blancpain-Tribute-to-Fifty-Fathoms-Mil-Spec\">The event was also the occasion to present the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/blancpain-tribute-fifty-fathoms-mil-spec-hands-on-baselworld-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Blancpain<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Fifty Fathoms MIL<\/strong>\u2013<strong>SPEC<\/strong><\/span><\/a>; a <strong>500<\/strong>\u2013<strong>piece<\/strong>\u2013<strong>limited<\/strong>\u2013<strong>edition<\/strong> remake of the timepiece that the <strong>US NAVY<\/strong> people used at the end of the <em>50s<\/em>, as it was the only watch\u00a0that had successfully gone through a series of tests specifically designed by the <strong>US NAVY<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-4\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-4.jpg\" alt=\"Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-4\"><strong>Blancpain<\/strong>\u00a0can boast quite a few firsts when it comes to diving; among these is a double-seal-system for the crown that ensures waterproofness even in the event of an accidental shifting\u00a0of the crown, the unidirectional rotating bezel, the hands coated with <strong>Super-Luminova<\/strong>\u00ae and a special window that contains an unusual orange \u201c<em>tablet<\/em>\u201d that, if the water enters the case, turns red.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-6\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-6.jpg\" alt=\"Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-6\">It might sound like a trivial device or something that you wouldn\u2019t really need, but truth is that, back in the days, these timepieces used to be the only tools that a diver had at their disposal, thus making them life-saving diving tools. The end of the morning culminated in the recovery of the <strong>Blancpain<\/strong><strong>\u00a0Fifty Fathoms MIL<\/strong>\u2013<strong>SPEC<\/strong> positioned at the bottom of the <strong>Y<\/strong>\u2013<strong>40<\/strong> pool (-42 metres); it was an honour for me to be able to do the countdown for <em>Genoni<\/em>\u2019s diving that started, in a totally natural way, from the edge of the pool.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-7\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-7.jpg\" alt=\"Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-7\">After our lunch break, <strong>Blancpain<\/strong>\u2019s brand-manger (<strong>Roberto Castagna<\/strong>) made a concise, but very informative speech, where he explained about the many partnerships and sponsorships that <strong>Blancpain<\/strong> is engaged in. All of these are somehow linked to the sea world; <strong>Gombessa<\/strong> expeditions, for instance, that led to the discovery of the\u00a0<em>coelacanth<\/em>; a species that had been deemed extinct for centuries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Blancpain-Tribute-to-Fifty-Fathoms-Mil-Spec-2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Blancpain-Tribute-to-Fifty-Fathoms-Mil-Spec-2_rBJeUzP.jpg\" alt=\"Blancpain-Tribute-to-Fifty-Fathoms-Mil-Spec-2\">A collaboration project with the <strong>National Geographic<\/strong> made it possible to lobby the government of different countries to increase the protected marine reserves that have grown from 2 million square kilometres to 4 million square kilometres.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-2.jpg\" alt=\"Blancpain-Fifty-Fathoms-Gianluca-Genoni-montegrotto-terme-2\">Blancpain<\/strong>\u00a0can also boast the distinction to be the first watch manufacturer in the world to take part in the <strong>Only Watch<\/strong> charity auction, whose goal is to raise funds for the fight against muscular dystrophy.\u00a0<strong>Blancpain<\/strong> has a lot to say; it is not only about its exceptional timepieces and, thanks to this event, it fully showed us what it is capable of.
