\u201cIngenieur<\/em>\u201d: a name that inspires me more than others because it represents my professional choice. IWC<\/strong>, the Swiss brand that built a legend in the world of watch-making dating back to 1950<\/strong> (1954-1955 <\/strong>to be more precise)\u00a0around this name, by releasing a timepiece dedicated to those professionals who had to work very closely with intense magnetic fields.<\/p>\n

Finally, the Rally Passione Caracciola<\/strong>, a car race that, together with the\u00a0Formula One <\/strong>races, represents the current link between the manufactory, the atelier from\u00a0Affalterbach<\/strong> (AMG<\/strong>) and the world of engines. Combine all of the above-mentioned points and you will get one of the most beautiful experiences that I have ever been involved in since this magazine was first founded.<\/p>\n

The IWC Ingenieur<\/strong> has changed; it has actually changed \u201conce again<\/em>\u201d, as some of you will probably say. Another pillar of the IWC<\/strong> offer has changed its skin again.<\/p>\n

I had slowly become accustomed to the Big Ingenieur <\/strong>(that I\u2019m looking for on the second-hand market in these days), the Mission Earth<\/strong> and the Plastiki<\/strong> and then, all of a sudden, we almost moved to the recreation of the Gerald G\u00e9nta 40mm Ingenieur<\/strong>; to end up with a process that will finally match a style that is closer to that of the original Ingenieur<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It was something that had been largely anticipated by the three 2016 special editions<\/strong> dedicated to Rudolph Caracciola<\/strong>, the mythical Mercedes<\/strong>\u2013Benz<\/strong> W125<\/strong> and the Goodwood Festival of Speed<\/strong>, respectively.<\/p>\n

Simple, \u201crigorous<\/em>\u201d lines, more German than Swiss; a reinterpretation, in the three-hand-version, of the recent\u00a0IW323311<\/strong> reference, which, some years ago, inadvertently anticipated the 2017 IWC Ingenieur<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The days when I got to see the whole collection coincided with the 2017<\/strong> edition of the Rally\u00a0Passion Caracciola<\/strong>. It happened first in Milan<\/strong> and in Via Montenapoleone<\/strong>, in front of the IWC<\/strong> boutique, where the Rally<\/strong> officially started; afterwards it happened at the Autodromo of\u00a0Monza<\/strong>, where the new IWC<\/strong> Ingenieur<\/strong> became the perfect frame built around a wonderful day.<\/p>\n

The setting was the original and the current race circuits, where the watch, in addition to being a travel companion in its Flyback<\/strong> chrono version, was also an indispensable travel companion during the simulation of the regular race on the circuit, hosted within a vintage Mercedes<\/strong>\u2013Benz<\/strong> cabriolet.<\/p>\n

This timepiece was also the main focus of our interview with the new company\u2019s CEO<\/strong> Chris<\/strong>\u2013Grainger<\/strong> Herr<\/strong>; the new man within the manufactory, who told us anecdotes and talked with us about the developments and reasons behind the idea to craft this new Ingenieur<\/strong>. It was a Q<\/strong>&A<\/strong> interview that you can enjoy while watching the video below taken inside and outside the hospitality of the race circuit.<\/p>\n

Outside, at the end of that interview, we first got to enjoy a ride onboard a GLA<\/strong> with an AMG<\/strong> badge alongside Nicola Larini<\/strong>, to then explore the romantic interior of a Mercedes-Benz<\/strong>\u00a0DTM<\/strong> version with\u00a0dog<\/strong>\u2013ring<\/strong>\u2013equipped<\/strong> gearbox<\/strong>\u00a0and 6<\/strong>\u2013cylinder<\/strong>\u2013normally<\/strong>\u2013aspirated<\/strong>\u2013engine<\/strong>. The latter car was driven by the German DTM<\/strong> super champion\u00a0and Mercedes<\/strong>\u2013AMG<\/strong>\u00a0ambassador\u00a0Bernd<\/strong> Schneider<\/strong>, who projected us from one bend to the other of the race circuit, at full speed.<\/p>\n
