The timepiece was presented last year at the <strong>Geneva SIHH<\/strong> in <strong>three<\/strong> <strong>different<\/strong> <strong>versions<\/strong> and, this year, the series has seen the addition of this simple and essential two-hands-watch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-family: HelveticaNeue,'Helvetica Neue',Helvetica,Arial,'Lucida Grande',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Cartier-Drive-de-Cartier-collection\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Cartier-Drive-de-Cartier-collection.jpg\" alt=\"Cartier-Drive-de-Cartier-collection\"><\/span><\/span><\/span>If we focus on the aesthetical and technical features of this model and then compare it to the three previous models, it comes quite evident that the concept of purity has been enhanced here even further:\u00a0the current model doesn\u2019t even feature the date, so I would tend to see it as an excessive simplification (while it is among the most appreciated features by true connoisseurs), but when I actually start looking at the technical side of this timepiece and leave the aesthetical features aside, I immediately notice that this timepiece\u2019s thickness measures less than <strong>7mm<\/strong> or rather <strong>40% less<\/strong> than the base model.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-family: HelveticaNeue,'Helvetica Neue',Helvetica,Arial,'Lucida Grande',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Cartier-Drive-de-Cartier-Extra-Flat\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Cartier-Drive-de-Cartier-Extra-Flat.jpg\" alt=\"Cartier-Drive-de-Cartier-Extra-Flat\"><\/span><\/span><\/span>Many people don\u2019t see an ultrathin model as a complication but this is actually not the case, as the ability to combine <strong>technical<\/strong> <strong>refinements<\/strong> with <strong>sturdiness<\/strong>, the <strong>precision of a movement<\/strong> with aesthetical beauty through the <strong>thinning of the entire timepiece<\/strong> while still making sure that the watch won\u2019t break, is a complication in itself and the concept of \u201c<em>less is more<\/em>\u201d really hits the spot here. Thanks to the <strong>manual caliber Cartier 430MC<\/strong> running at a frequency of <strong>21,600 A\/h<\/strong> and featuring <strong>18 rubies<\/strong>, of <strong>20,5mm<\/strong> in diameter and <strong>2,15mm<\/strong> in thickness (the caliber originates from <strong>Piaget<\/strong>; a manufactory famous in the <strong>50s<\/strong> and <strong>60s<\/strong> for its <strong>ultrathin<\/strong> and <strong>excellent calibers <\/strong>like the <strong>manual 9P<\/strong> and the <strong>automatic 12P<\/strong>), the\u00a0<strong>Cartier Drive de Cartier Extra-Flat<\/strong>\u00a0provides its users with style, elegance, great wearability, sturdiness, reliability, precision, and longevity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-family: HelveticaNeue,'Helvetica Neue',Helvetica,Arial,'Lucida Grande',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Cartier-Drive-de-Cartier-Extra-Flat-4\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Cartier-Drive-de-Cartier-Extra-Flat-4.jpg\" alt=\"Cartier-Drive-de-Cartier-Extra-Flat-4\"><\/span><\/span><\/span>The dial is minimalistic in style; it is <strong>matted gray<\/strong> in color, it features big <strong>Roman<\/strong> numbers painted on the sides and a minute scale in the middle; this references the pattern of the <strong>38mm<\/strong> by <strong>39mm<\/strong> <strong>coussin<\/strong>\u2013<strong>shaped<\/strong> <strong>case<\/strong>. The <strong>sapphire glass<\/strong> is <strong>flat<\/strong> and is crafted in the same shape as the case and mounted on the inner perimeter. The <strong>Cartier Drive de Cartier Extra-Flat<\/strong>\u00a0comes in <strong>pink gold<\/strong> or <strong>white gold<\/strong>, the latter version has only been released in <strong>200 limited<\/strong>\u2013<strong>series<\/strong> <strong>pieces<\/strong>. The <strong>bezel<\/strong>, the <strong>lugs<\/strong>, and the <strong>outer perimeter<\/strong> are <strong>polished<\/strong>, while the <strong>thin case<\/strong>\u2013<strong>middle<\/strong> is <strong>satin<\/strong>\u2013<strong>finished<\/strong>. The <strong>case<\/strong>\u2013<strong>back<\/strong> is screwed in through <strong>8 small screws<\/strong> (no pressure screws) to highlight the refined construction work behind this watch.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-family: HelveticaNeue,'Helvetica Neue',Helvetica,Arial,'Lucida Grande',sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Cartier-Drive-de-Cartier-Extra-Flat-3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Cartier-Drive-de-Cartier-Extra-Flat-3.jpg\" alt=\"Cartier-Drive-de-Cartier-Extra-Flat-3\"><\/span><\/span><\/span>Another classic and refined feature of the\u00a0<strong>Cartier Drive de Cartier Extra-Flat<\/strong>\u00a0model is its <strong>crown<\/strong> built in the shape of a <strong>bolt<\/strong> with a <strong>multifaceted sapphire<\/strong> that is typical of <strong>Cartier<\/strong>, the <strong>leather strap<\/strong> is <strong>thin<\/strong> and <strong>finely crafted<\/strong>, it is made of alligator skin and it features a\u00a0buckle in the shape of a \u201c<em><strong>C<\/strong><\/em>\u201c. I personally find this <strong>Cartier Drive de Cartier Extra-Flat<\/strong>\u00a0quite pretty and whoever is able to appreciate its aesthetic looks, its wearability and its technical side and elegance, will be gifted with a second skin around their wrist given the very reduced thickness of this timepiece and who knows? Maybe an automatic, more practical version of this watch (and hopefully with a micro-rotor) will be released next year; only time will tell!
