Baume & Mercier actually\u00a0partners with two iconic brands of American motor racing: Shelby Cobra and Indian Motorcycles.<\/h2>\n

The Baume & Mercier Shelby Cobra<\/strong> collection has been today complemented by the partnership the Swiss brand signed with Indian Mororcycles<\/strong><\/span><\/a> but there\u2019s no doubt it still is one of the most alluring partnerships between classic watchmaking and classic racing. When it was firts launched it just seemed like an experiment but the Swiss brand actually brought back to life the myth of a big sports car manufacturer called Carroll Shelby<\/strong> and gave\u00a0a sporty and unexpected personality to the classic Capeland chrono<\/strong><\/span><\/a> that\u00a0has finally handed the baton to the Clifton Club<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"Shelby-Cobra-Daytona-Coupe-CSX2299\"In watch-making, the concept of \u201cco-branding<\/em>\u201d has almost disappeared (take a look at what Richard Mille <\/strong>and Hublot<\/strong> have done respectively) to leave room to the more attractive and intense \u2013 even more credible \u2013 concept of \u201cpartnership<\/em>\u201d, where two types of experience fuse together to give birth to products, whose design and mechanics get their inspiration from different sectors.<\/p>\n

In the history of watchmaking there are plenty of examples where new timepieces drew their inspiration from a car<\/h2>\n

When it comes to watch-making and cars, the union is almost natural; simply take a look at the amount of luxury cars, whose dashboards are equipped with quartz timepieces or even mechanic watches designed by big brands (Bugatti, Bentley are two of the most obvious examples). Likewise, the style of a car has also influenced the style of a timepiece, like it happened in the 30s, when Alfred Dunhill took inspiration from the lights hosted inside Rolls Royce interior to craft the original version of today\u2019s City-Fighter<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"Shelby-Cobra-Daytona-Coupe-CSX2299-Peter-Brock\"We will never know whether a Baume & Mercier Shelby\u00a0Cobra<\/strong> will ever be fitted inside a Mustang Shelby Cobra GT<\/strong> (today, the brand Shelby<\/strong> is used by Ford<\/strong>) but that logo keeps equipping the chrono central hand tip of a Baume & Mercier<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Quite an interesting source of inspiration<\/h2>\n

Despite all, the inspiration source of the brand is not your typical Cobra<\/strong> but rather one of its extremely rare versions and one of the most incredible (and fast) successes in the history of sports car racing. Carroll<\/strong>\u2018s intuition and his willingness to improve the performance of his own creation pushed him to get in touch at the time with Peter Brock<\/strong>; a brilliant designer to whom he asked to come up with a chassis that could enhance even further the already extraordinary performances of the Cobra<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"Shelby-Cobra-Daytona-Coupe-CSX2299-due\"In this\u00a0project, Carroll<\/strong> cooperated with a famous engineer called Ken Miles<\/strong>. Carroll<\/strong>\u2018s vision, Peter<\/strong>\u2018s intuition for aerodynamics and Ken<\/strong>\u2018s experience, contributed to the creation of a successful mixture, whose result \u2013 obtained in just 90 days \u2013 translated into a car that could beat the original Cobra<\/strong> (and the competition too) on every level.<\/p>\n

A top performer: the\u00a0Shelby\u00a0Cobra Daytona Coup\u00e8 CSX2299.<\/h2>\n

The legendary Shelby\u00a0Cobra Daytona Coup\u00e8 CSX2299<\/strong> was born that day. Its maximum speed could beat by nearly 36 miles per hour<\/strong> the top speed of the Small Block<\/strong> while guaranteeing more stability and agility at the same time. If you take a look at the car\u2019s performance, it is quite obvious that the new shape had reduced the aerodynamic drag of the car while increasing the downforce in corners, thus creating a racing car that Dan<\/strong> Gurney<\/strong> and Bob Bondurant<\/strong> brought to victory at Le Mans<\/strong> and in other competitions too.<\/p>\n

\"baume-mercier-clifton-club-shelby-cobra-three-register-chronograph-10343-blue-dial\"One of the eight CSX2299<\/strong> ever made was on display at the Baume & Mercier<\/strong>\u2018s booth at last year\u2019s\u00a0SIHH<\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0Peter<\/strong>, that designed one of the most performing chassis in the history of GT car<\/strong> design, has been deeply involved in the design of the new\u00a0Baume et Mercier Clifton Club Shelby\u00a0Cobra CSX2299 Limited Edition\u00a0<\/strong>and the other two versions: the\u00a0<\/span>Baume & Mercier Clifton Club 10343<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>and the\u00a0Baume & Mercier Clifton Club 10342<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Baume-Mercier-Clifton-Club-Shelby-Cobra-CSX-2299-Limited-Edition-3\"<\/span>The dial of the Baume & Mercier Clifton Club Shelby\u00a0Cobra CSX2299 Limited Edition<\/strong> is divided into two parts; one is blue<\/strong> and the second one is silver<\/strong>. They faithfully copy the livery available on the back of the Daytona<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"Baume-Mercier-Clifton-Club-Shelby-Cobra-CSX-2299-Limited-Edition-4\"The chrono buttons feature the same engraved knurling as the racing pedals, while the writing \u201cCobra<\/em>\u201d located on the left hand side of the case is a tribute to the legendary 8<\/strong>\u2013cylinder<\/strong>\u2013head<\/strong> called \u201csmall block<\/em>\u201d, where a matted and polished finish alternate. The rotor is a small<\/strong>\u2013scale<\/strong> copy<\/strong> of the wheel of a CSX2299<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0dial on the Flyback Chrono reference CSX 2299.<\/h2>\n

If you are familiar with the brand\u2019s collection, you will notice that the two counters belong to a Flyback<\/strong> calibre. The Baume & Mercier Clifton Club Shelby\u00a0Cobra CSX2299 Limited Edition<\/strong> is infact\u00a0equipped with the same beautiful La<\/strong>\u2013Joux<\/strong> Perret<\/strong> 8147<\/strong>\u20132<\/strong> calibre running at a frequency of 4Hz<\/strong> and guaranteeing up to 42 hours of power reserve <\/strong>that equips the Baume & Mercier Capeland Chronograph Flyback<\/strong>, while the central chrono hand is red and its end is crafted in the shape of a cobra<\/strong> (the logo of the small American<\/strong> atelier).<\/p>\n

\"Baume-Mercier-Clifton-Club-Shelby-Cobra-chronograph-2\"On the tachymetric scale is listed the maximum speed reached by the Cobra Daytona<\/strong> during a trial racing on a salt lake; 196 miles per hour<\/strong>, an exceptional result at that time and the reason why only 196 pieces<\/strong> of the Baume & Mercier Clifton Club Shelby\u00a0Cobra CSX2299 Limited Edition<\/strong> will\u00a0be made. Each timepiece\u00a0comes in a silver<\/strong>\u2013coloured<\/strong> box<\/strong> that contains a 1:43 small-scale car model<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A Flyback Chrono and two three-subdial chronos: the\u00a0Baume & Mercier Clifton Club 10343 and the Baume et Mercier Clifton Club 10342.<\/h2>\n

Together with the Baume & Mercier Clifton Club Shelby\u00a0Cobra CSX2299 Limited Edition<\/strong>, two chrono versions have been released, they remind us of the classic three-counter-layout of the Clifton<\/strong> and, on this occasion, they also display the double coloured strip that runs from the bonnet to the rear wing. With the goal of creating a family feeling between the Limited Edition<\/strong> version and these two chronos, the dial of the chrono displays the 30-minute-register <\/strong>and the 12-hour-register<\/strong> in a blue colour that contrasts with the silver dial and vice versa, thus imitating the look and feel of the two-counter-chrono.<\/p>\n

\"Baume-Mercier-Clifton-Club-Shelby-Cobra-chronograph-collection-4\"All the versions share the same high-tech fabric clothing strip (blue<\/strong> on the Limited Edition<\/strong> and black<\/strong> on the two three-counter-chronos<\/strong>) with a carbon<\/strong>\u2013look<\/strong> finish, a folding clasp and steel buckle, and the brand\u2019s engraving. Baume & Mercier<\/strong> is the only brand that used the same steel buckle that it uses on its leather strap on the rubber<\/strong> NATO strap<\/strong> of the new\u00a0Clifton Club<\/strong> too.<\/p>\n

It is not exactly a popular price, but you\u2019re in front of quite an uncommon timepiece since the amount of timepieces manufactured makes it a \u201ccollectible item<\/em>\u201d and also because Baume & Mercier<\/strong> didn\u2019t craft a stock flyback version either. For the chrono versions like the\u00a0Baume & Mercier\u00a0Clifton Club Shelby\u00a0Cobra 10342\u00a0<\/strong>and the\u00a0Baume & Mercier\u00a0Clifton Club Shelby\u00a0Cobra 10343<\/strong>\u00a0the retail price is 4100<\/strong>\u20ac.<\/p>\n
