Today, the same bezel appears on two timepieces that the manufacturer unveiled before the <strong>SIHH 2017<\/strong> that will take place in <strong>Geneva<\/strong> between <strong>16<\/strong>\u2013<strong>19<\/strong> <strong>January<\/strong> next year. As far as the new features of the product go, this type of bezel reappeared in <strong>2013<\/strong> on the <strong>PAM 521<\/strong> and <strong>522<\/strong> references also; two <strong>limited editions<\/strong> released in <strong>100 pieces<\/strong> only and crafted for the real fans that sold out in no time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Panerai_Radiomir_Acciaio_PAM685_687_47mm_front_back\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Panerai_Radiomir_Acciaio_PAM685_687_47mm_front_back.jpg\" alt=\"Panerai Radiomir Acciaio PAM685 687 47mm front back\">I am a big fan of <strong>Panerai<\/strong> and, among all the new timepieces that are either released at the <strong>Geneva<\/strong> exhibition or presented to the public beforehand, it is <strong>Panerai<\/strong>\u2019s watches that I am always expecting with the greatest anticipation. I own three <strong>Panerai<\/strong> watches and a fourth one, possibly a <strong>Radiomir<\/strong>, is on my <strong>2017<\/strong> wish list. Let\u2019s now take a more detailed look at the <strong>PAM 685<\/strong> and <strong>687<\/strong> references that are laconically indicated as \u201c<em>Panerai Radiomir 3 days Acciaio 47mm<\/em>\u201d, two special editions that, for the first time, have brought along a more simplified name also.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These two timepieces are inspired to a watch from the 30s that used to be worn by the troops of the <strong>Military Navy<\/strong> of the <strong>Italian Kingdom<\/strong>. The difference between these models and those that used to be given to the soldiers is that this type of watch hadn\u2019t been originally designed to be worn while on an assignment or mission but rather on official occasions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Panerai_Radiomir_Acciaio_PAM685_47mm_2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Panerai_Radiomir_Acciaio_PAM685_47mm_2.jpg\" alt=\"Panerai Radiomir Acciaio PAM685 47mm 2\">The original model featured an extremely particular characteristic, namely<strong> its bezel<\/strong> was <strong>dodecagonal<\/strong> and sported the writing \u201c<em>Officine Panerai<\/em> \u2013 <em>Brevettato<\/em>\u201d\u00a0on the inner circumference. It was almost as if it were a \u201c<em>double face<\/em>\u201d geometrical shape or a purposely-made symmetrical image of the same engraving that was present on the case-back. On both the <strong>PAM 685<\/strong> and <strong>687<\/strong> references, the bezel has been screwed in and it is perfectly symmetric to the one screwed in on the back; an original manner to apply a <strong>double bezel<\/strong> on the classic cushion-shaped case of the <strong>Radiomir<\/strong> that hasn\u2019t changed a bit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Panerai_Radiomir_Acciaio_PAM685_47mm_3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Panerai_Radiomir_Acciaio_PAM685_47mm_3.jpg\" alt=\"Panerai Radiomir Acciaio PAM685 47mm 3\">The <strong>circular side<\/strong> with the <strong>satin finish<\/strong> and the engraving descends into the dodecagonal profile through polished bevels; a way to create an aesthetic solution of continuity with the case while also leaving the new aesthetic choice in full view. For the sandwich dial, <strong>Panerai<\/strong> has chosen two different options; the <strong>first option<\/strong> includes a more classic <strong>black dial<\/strong> while the <strong>second option<\/strong> includes a <strong>brown<\/strong>\u2013<strong>shaded<\/strong> <strong>dial<\/strong> that reminds us of the \u201c<em>aging process<\/em>\u201d of the first <strong>Radiomir<\/strong> dials and the dials of the original model, whose colour (its value and flair too) was the direct result of the use of <strong>Radiomir<\/strong> (a patented radioactive substance) on the dial.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Panerai_Radiomir_Acciaio_PAM685_687_47mm_3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Panerai_Radiomir_Acciaio_PAM685_687_47mm_3.jpg\" alt=\"Panerai Radiomir Acciaio PAM685 687 47mm 3\">The <strong>caliber<\/strong> is the famous <strong>P3000<\/strong> that is entirely in-house built (it was a modified <strong>Minerva<\/strong> on the <strong>521<\/strong> and on the <strong>522<\/strong>) with some new features. During the <strong>SIHH 2016<\/strong>, <strong>Panerai<\/strong> introduced us to what I would call an aesthetic evolution rather than a technical one; a new design of the bridges and thus a superior feeling of perceived quality if compared to that of my <strong>Radiomir PAM 424<\/strong>. The technical features haven\u2019t changed; <strong>3 days of power reserve<\/strong> achieved through <strong>two barrels<\/strong>, <strong>manual winding<\/strong>, separated adjustment of the hours hand just to name a few.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The two <strong>Panerai Radiomir 3 Days Acciaio 47mm<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>PAM 685<\/strong> and <strong>687<\/strong>\u00a0timepieces are equipped with a Plexiglas glass whose profile goes slightly above the bezel and they don\u2019t sport any window for the date; two characteristics that make them more similar to the historic model. The brand will decide how many of these two special editions will craft and the suggested retail price is slightly below the psychological <strong>10,000<\/strong>\u2013<strong>euro<\/strong>\u2013<strong>threshold<\/strong>.
