The Panerai\u00a0Luminor 8 Days Set\u00a0PAM786<\/strong>\u00a0isn\u2019t the first experiment by the\u00a0brand to bring together under one reference two limited-series timepieces. Two years ago\u00a0Panerai<\/strong> presented its reference 785<\/strong><\/span><\/a> that was quite similar to this one and was made up of two Luminor<\/strong> watches, this reference was also the very first attempt that the brand had made to bring back to life some of its most recent history.<\/p>\n

The modern time of OFFICINE<\/strong>\u00a0PANERAI<\/strong> officially restarted in 1993<\/strong> when the first samples of the Luminor<\/strong> watch were distributed to the public and those ones\u00a0belonging to this period are of remarkable interest to those who collect OFFICINE\u00a0PANERAI\u2019<\/strong>s watches.<\/p>\n

\"PaneraiAll the timepieces that have been crafted from that year onwards are generally classified as \u201cPre<\/em>\u2013Vendome<\/em>\u201d timepieces and it wasn\u2019t until 1997<\/strong>,\u00a0that the brand was officially acquired by the Richemont Group<\/strong> that, at the time, was still known as the Vend\u00f4me Group<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The result is that the few models that were produced in those years have reached an incredible value as collectibles and they have been so successful that they nowadays represent a case history in the world of collecting if we consider the relatively young age of the brand although with a fascinating history, the scarce availability of these timepieces and a very personal style.<\/p>\n

\"PANERAIThe Panerai\u00a0Luminor 8 Days Set\u00a0PAM786<\/strong>\u00a0is made up of the\u00a0Panerai<\/strong>\u00a0Luminor Black Seal Left-handed 8 Days Acciaio DLC<\/strong> and the\u00a0Panerai<\/strong>\u00a0Luminor Daylight 8 Days Acciaio<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>two timepieces that draw inspiration from two\u00a0models originally conceived for actor Sylvester Stallone<\/strong>, a friend of the brand.<\/p>\n

This is the first time that OFFICINE\u00a0PANERAI<\/strong>\u00a0has put together in a single limited edition a version for left-handed people and a so-called \u201cstandard<\/em>\u201d version, 500 box<\/strong> sets in total have been released. The Panerai\u00a0Luminor Black Seal Left-handed 8 Days Acciaio DLC<\/strong> features a stainless steel case that measures 44mm<\/strong> and is coated with DLC<\/strong> or \u201cDiamond Like Carbon<\/strong>\u201d, a thin layer of carbon with a diamond-made structure that makes this timepiece extremely resistant to scratches.<\/p>\n

\"PANERAIThe Panerai\u00a0Luminor Black Seal Left-handed 8 Days Acciaio DLC<\/strong>\u2019s case is crafted in a matted and smooth black colour with a vague\u00a0accent of gray hue that perfectly matches the deep black colour of the dial and the vintage\u00a0Super-Luminova<\/strong>-filled indexes.<\/p>\n

This timepiece has a military look that is extremely simple, the same as on the first\u00a0Panerai<\/strong> watches, the dial is not a sandwich one but it is rather made up of a single block where the indexes have been directly applied while the religiously-sealed case-back features two engravings; the historic \u201cOP\u201d logo and the \u201cOFFICINE\u00a0PANERAI Firenze\u201d writing.<\/p>\n

\"PANERAIThe buckle is testing ground for the brand\u2019s specialists since it is directly sewn to the strap \u2013 the Ponte Vecchio<\/strong> in the collection of straps from the brand \u2013 therefore it is not replaceable. The geometric shape of the pin buckle is the same as the original Black Seal<\/strong>\u2019s and it also features an engraved \u201cOP\u201d logo on the left hand side. The\u00a0Panerai Luminor Daylight 8 Days Acciaio<\/strong> gets its name from a timepiece that was used by\u00a0Sylvester Stallone<\/strong>\u00a0during the shooting of the movie \u201cDaylight\u201d in 1996<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"PANERAIThe timepiece sports a white dial<\/strong> and blue indexes<\/strong>\u00a0and hands<\/strong> and clearly draws inspiration from the\u00a0prototypes of reference\u00a05218-207\/A<\/strong>. The beauty of this version lies in the original coupling of a white dial<\/strong> and blue Arabic numbers and indexes<\/strong> that are characterized by a thinner and different font than that of the original plumpy and larger number 12 that appears on the dial of a traditional Luminor<\/strong>. Moreover, a group of twelve small embossed dots cover the entire ring between the indexes and the inner edge of the case.<\/p>\n

Both timepieces are equipped with the in-house-built P5000<\/strong> manual caliber that guarantees up to 8 days of power reserve<\/strong>, two characteristics that we take for granted when it comes to a\u00a0Panerai<\/strong> watch and a combo that is objectively difficult to find somewhere else: the beauty of a hand-wound caliber<\/strong> coupled with a strong power reserve<\/strong>. The Panerai\u00a0Luminor 8 Days Set\u00a0PAM786<\/strong> contains the two Luminor<\/strong> timepieces, a publication about the Royal Italian Navy<\/strong>, a scale model of slow<\/strong>\u2013cruising<\/strong> manned<\/strong> torpedo <\/strong>(SLC<\/strong> = \u201cSiluro a Lenta Corsa\u201d in Italian), and a double replacement strap.<\/p>\n

\"PANERAIThe\u00a0Panerai Luminor 8 Days<\/strong> box set<\/strong> is the second limited-edition box set that takes inspiration from the \u201cPre<\/em>\u2013Vendome<\/em>\u201d period. After the last two years that have seen the manufacturer open its historic archives, the brand now specializes in bringing back to life the most recent chapter in its history and in devoting itself to the Luminor<\/strong> collection. The new\u00a0Panerai\u00a0Daylight<\/strong> is the best Luminor<\/strong> watch with a white dial that has ever been designed in my opinion and a possible taste, I hope,\u00a0of what\u00a0Panerai<\/strong> might come up with in the near future. The box set retails at about 21,000 euro<\/strong> because, when it comes to luxury, the concept of \u201cbundled pricing<\/em>\u201d unfortunately doesn\u2019t apply!<\/p>\n
