{"id":26069,"date":"2020-04-16T07:17:36","date_gmt":"2020-04-16T07:17:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/alpina-km-710-first-contact\/"},"modified":"2021-11-26T15:20:59","modified_gmt":"2021-11-26T15:20:59","slug":"alpina-km-710-watch-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/en\/alpina-km-710-watch-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Introducing the new Alpina KM-710 watch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-dc4eac2a-2c1a-7306-123f-4043d79c64dd\">When someone talks about professional watches, you immediately think about diver\u2019s watches or observation watches but there are also specific timepieces that have made a particular profession their own mission in life and that has rightly enabled them to become part of that huge volume of facts and events that we call \u201c<\/span>history\u201d. <strong>Alpina<\/strong> is one of those maisons that has given quite an extensive contribution to the history of watch-making, for example to the history of the <strong>German<\/strong> navy and thanks to the crafting of timepieces like the <strong>Alpina 4<\/strong> with its stainless steel case equipped with the <strong>586<\/strong> and <strong>592<\/strong> <strong>calibers<\/strong>, extremely reliable and resistant.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-dc4eac2a-2c1a-7306-123f-4043d79c64dd\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Alpina_KM_710_sei\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Alpina_KM_710_sei.jpg\" alt=\"Alpina KM 710 sei\">This year, the brand that has been recently acquired by the <strong>Citizen<\/strong> group along with <strong>Frederique Constant<\/strong>, is launching a re-interpretation of their legendary <strong>KM<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>592<\/strong> by trying to give it some modern traits while still maintaining its perception as a unified whole. The stainless steel-made case has now been upgraded to a <strong>41,5mm<\/strong> size and the screw-down case-back is now able to protect the movement contained within up to a level of <strong>5 bar <\/strong>pressure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Alpina_KM_710_cinque\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Alpina_KM_710_cinque.jpg\" alt=\"Alpina KM 710 cinque\">The indexes have been coated using <strong>Super<\/strong>\u2013<strong>LumiNova<\/strong>\u00a0that have undergone a vintage treatment which makes them look very similar to those appearing on the original model, the <strong>KM\u00a0710<\/strong> writing, on the other hand, completely clashes with the past due to the more generous new size of the timepiece that only allows it to fit in one line while leaving some room for the <strong>Alpina<\/strong> logo that has been placed just below the writing.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-dc4eac2a-2c1a-7306-123f-4043d79c64dd\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Alpina_KM_710_tre\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Alpina_KM_710_tre.jpg\" alt=\"Alpina KM 710 tre\">The figure <strong>710<\/strong> indicates the movement that powers this watch; the <strong>AL<\/strong>\u2013<strong>710<\/strong> is an in-house built caliber made up of <strong>134 different parts<\/strong>, among which are the <strong>Glucydur<\/strong>-made balance wheel oscillating at a frequency of <strong>4Hz<\/strong>, the winding barrel guaranteeing up to <strong>42 hours of power reserve<\/strong>\u00a0when fully wound and the original <strong>pendulum<\/strong>\u2013<strong>like<\/strong> oscillating weight. The recharging function is bidirectional and the oscillating weight resembles the historic one mounted on the <strong>582 caliber<\/strong>, a <strong>1949<\/strong> invention by <strong>Alpina<\/strong> that is now black in colour. <\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Alpina_KM_710_due\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Alpina_KM_710_due.jpg\" alt=\"Alpina KM 710 due\">The finishing is quite refined and is entirely visible through the sapphire crystal back; <strong>perlage<\/strong>, <strong>C\u00f4tes de Gen\u00e8ve<\/strong>, <strong>chamfered<\/strong> and <strong>rhodium<\/strong>\u2013<strong>plated<\/strong> bridges.\u00a0The seconds hand is now central and it reminds us, in its tip, of the unmistakable triangle that is also the brand\u2019s symbol, at 6 o\u2019clock instead lies the pointer-date. The straight lugs embrace a brown leather strap with a modern cut, visible stitching and pin buckle clasp.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-dc4eac2a-2c1a-7306-123f-4043d79c64dd\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%;\" title=\"Alpina_KM_710_quattro\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horbiter.com\/media\/uploads\/Alpina_KM_710_quattro.jpg\" alt=\"Alpina KM 710 quattro\">On one side there is a strong reference to the historic model and therefore it is the vintage style that prevails, on the other hand, however, a prominent modern touch erupts leaving us all a bit confused. The <strong>Alpina<\/strong> <strong>KM-710<\/strong> is definitely my favourite watch among all of the brand\u2019s collections, nevertheless there is something that I can\u2019t really grasp and that\u2019s its <strong>41,5mm<\/strong> diameter that, in my opinion, seems a bit excessive for a vintage style re-edition. Truth is that the original size is way too small for today\u2019s taste, the final result is a successful ensemble, both from a <strong>technical<\/strong> and <strong>aesthetic<\/strong> point of view but it distances itself from the <strong>KM\u00a0592<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span>This timepiece is available from <strong>Alpina<\/strong> resellers and its retail price totals <strong>2,495<\/strong> euro.
