Rolex Cellini: Rolex is not just about the Oyster models.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to Rolex<\/strong>, imagination runs wild towards the various Oyster<\/strong> models; the Deepsea 126660, the Sea-Dweller and this year the GMT Master II Pepsi\u00a0<\/span>too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also the stainless steel Daytona and the Gold Daytona<\/strong>, or even the stainless steel Sky<\/strong>\u2013Dweller<\/strong><\/span>. Very few people seem to be familiar instead with the Cellini<\/strong><\/span> collection, the real embodiment of the term \u201cunderstatement<\/em>\u201d according to Rolex<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

The same way it happens in the music world, where classic style is constantly evolving into a specialized market for a selected audience, even in the world of watch-making, the formal and balanced rules of classicism are slowly and steadily attracting a clientele who expects nothing else than perfection. This is the exact concept that Rolex<\/strong>, with their new Cellini<\/strong> collection, have perfectly understood and interpreted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A tribute\u00a0to\u00a0Italy and Benvenuto Cellini<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The entire know how that the manufacturer has acquired in over 100 years of history is elegantly summarized in this new collection and is taken to places that are usually not that apt for an Yacht-Master 40mm\u00a0<\/strong>or a Yacht-Master II<\/strong><\/a>, like a gala evening or the opening night at La Scala<\/strong> in Milan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three versions of the Rolex Cellini<\/strong> (Cellini\u00a0Time<\/strong>,\u00a0Cellini\u00a0Date<\/strong> and\u00a0Cellini\u00a0Dual Time<\/strong>) exceptionally mirror the manufacturer\u2019s spirit that is made of a balanced design, details and exclusivity.<\/p>\n\n\n

The collection\u2019s name is a tribute to an Italian<\/strong> artist, Benvenuto<\/strong> Cellini<\/strong>, who was born in Florence<\/strong> in 1500<\/strong> during the so-called Mannerism<\/strong>, when artistic style went hand in hand with the dream of exploring new horizons without losing sight of the perfect harmony of things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three in-house calibers that power a time only version and two complicated timepieces:\u00a0a Pointer Date and a GMT.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Precious materials like 18-carat-Everose gold<\/strong> (a Rolex<\/strong> patented alloy) and 18-carat-white gold<\/strong> host Rolex<\/strong>\u2019s automatic in-house built calibers that guarantee up to 48 hours of power-reserve<\/strong> and a blue<\/strong> paramagnetic<\/strong> Parachrom<\/strong> balance<\/strong> spring<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0Cellini Time<\/strong> is equipped with the 3132<\/strong> caliber<\/strong>, the brand opted for the 3165<\/strong> caliber<\/strong> for their\u00a0Cellini Date<\/strong> watch with date and for the 3180<\/strong> caliber for their\u00a0Cellini Dual Time<\/strong> with GMT<\/strong> function.<\/p>\n\n\n

All of the above-mentioned movements boast a precision rate that equals +\/- 2 seconds per day<\/strong> that is also guaranteed by the \u00a0certification for Superlative Chronometers<\/strong> (on the entire timepiece), a concept that was re-defined by Rolex<\/strong> in 2015<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The watches are guaranteed up to 5 years<\/strong> and, thanks to the winding crown and the screwed case back, all timepieces are water proof up to 50 metres<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

The dial of these\u00a0Cellini <\/strong>watches measures 39mm<\/strong>, it is perfectly symmetric except on the\u00a0Cellini Date<\/strong> \u2013 a typical touch of Mannerism<\/strong> \u2013 where, artistically speaking, the \u201cPointer Date<\/em>\u201d shifts part of its weight to the right sector of the timepiece.<\/p>\n\n\n

The double convex\u00a0and fluted bezel perfectly matches the winding crown and the sunray-pattern that stems out of the centre of the dial and fills its entire surface (the technical name of this motif is \u201cRayon flamm\u00e9 de la gloire<\/em>\u201d and is not present on the\u00a0Cellini Time<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n

Its style ideally resembles the design of a Datejust 41<\/a><\/span><\/strong>\u2018s fluted bezel.<\/span>\u00a0The straight lugs sustain the alligator skin strap with a pin buckle, with Rolex<\/strong> logo, that is made of the same material as the case.<\/p>\n\n\n

With their new Cellini<\/strong> collection, Rolex<\/strong> reiterates their concept of classic timepiece that is based on balance and harmony by adding some new characteristics that have made the Oyster<\/strong> collection recognizable and that make the Cellini<\/strong> series better identifiable among the many classic three-counters and \u201cslightly<\/em>\u201d complicated watches that exist in the market.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Rolex Cellini is among the least sought-after Rolex watches, yet it proved Rolex was a trend-setter in the seventies.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you talk to most Rolex<\/strong> collectors and early adopters alike, you\u2019ll find out that a\u00a0Cellini<\/strong> barely fills their wishlist. It doesn\u2019t give justice to a collection that placed Rolex<\/strong> among the luxury watch trend-setters, from a technical and stylistic point of view, in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a design perspective, the\u00a0Cellini<\/strong>\u2018s history was subject to never-ending changes over the course of the years: today Rolex<\/strong> produces watches that exclusively feature a round case, yet the\u00a0Cellini<\/strong> reveals Rolex<\/strong> was a trend-setting brand.<\/p>\n\n\n

We can\u2019t forget the unmistakable\u00a0Cellini King Midas<\/strong> (photo credit: Bob<\/strong>\u2018s<\/strong> Watches<\/strong>), designed by G\u00e9rald Genta<\/strong>, it seems, or the\u00a0Cellini Prince<\/strong>, a tribute to the art-deco Rolex<\/strong> watches from the early 1930s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first one showcased an asymmetrical-shaped case paired to different bracelet options, including an integrated bracelet or an alligator strap or a Cellini<\/strong> marked symmetrical one: they were both equipped with the ultra-flat Rolex 650 mechanical movement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More recently instead, before the\u00a0Cellini<\/strong> eventually turned to be a cushion-shaped and a round shaped watch then, Rolex<\/strong> introduced the\u00a0Cellini Prince<\/strong>, whose splendid hand-wound Rolex caliber 7040<\/strong> is fully visible through the case-back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a touch of originality that is typical of Mannerism<\/strong>; the non-centered date located at 3 o\u2019clock on the\u00a0Cellini Date<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rolex<\/strong>, with this new collection,\u00a0want to make everybody aware of their presence in a territory that is usually Jaeger-LeCoultre<\/strong>\u2019s and Vacheron Constantin<\/strong>\u2019s dominion, by using the best strategy that entails retailing their timepieces at a starting price of 14,150<\/strong> euro.<\/p>\n\n\n

In 1928<\/strong>, the\u00a0Cellini Prince<\/strong> \u2013 the first\u00a0Cellini<\/strong> \u2013 was equipped with a see-through back case (like the recent 5441\/1<\/strong>), something that sounds and looks like a taboo for the current Rolex<\/strong> watches but that we would like to see again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering the fact that Rolex<\/strong>\u2019s calibers are all in-house built and that this one of the most appreciated characteristics when it comes to this particular type of watch, maybe this particular feature could be coupled with a folding clasp that would make this timepiece even more in fashion and versatile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
