Watch Talk: news and inisight from the watchmaking industry
Watch Talk
Introducing the most relevant news from the world of watches: industry news, market analysis, and much more.
We created this column to bring you the most important news from the watch industry: What are the most prominent watchmaking groups, and how have they changed over the years? What are the most significant mergers and acquisitions, how did they happen, and how have Baselworld and SIHH evolved? Hands-on reviews are great, yet little or nothing do they convey about the watch market, and are not enough to help understand which direction is the watch industry taking.
Did you know, for example, that the Swatch Group is the first watch group in the world and that Apple is now regarded, thanks to the Apple Watch, as a watch manufacturer, from a business point of view? Also, not all the Groups have watch brands in their portfolio: the LVMH Group and the Kering Group include other businesses too.
Turnover, profit and performance analysis of the main luxury groups.
Another topic that is barely discussed regards to business performance. The most important groups are listed at the stock exchange, like Swatch, Richemont, Kering, LVMH, but not all the watch brands are. For example, Rolex, Audemars Piguet, and Patek are not public companies, and this represents an advantage in terms of brand marketing and commercial policies. The analysis of the performance of individual brands, the pricing logics and, also, the product quality analysis are exciting topics that help any consumer understand more about a brand and make a choice.
